This position provides support to project engineers with processing design and survey data into accurate, construction-ready plan sets. The CAD Design Technician position is responsible for preparing civil engineering drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D and MicroStation software. We're looking for a candidate who can multitask across multiple projects, stay flexible in their workload and willingness to produce, and deliver quality work on fast-tracked projects without sacrificing accuracy. A positive attitude and genuine team-player mindset are essential — this person will work closely with engineers, surveyors, and project managers, and their ability to collaborate well with others is just as important as their technical skill. Duties for
CAD Design Technician:
Operates AutoCAD Civil 3D cad software; working knowledge of MicroStation and Esri ArcGIS. Prepares civil engineering plan sets, including plan-and-profile sheets, details, and cross sections. Develops design surfaces, alignments, profiles, and corridors for water, sanitary sewer, roadway, and drainage projects. Drafts utility layouts for water distribution and sanitary sewer collection systems, including pipe sizing, manholes, and lift stations. Prepares roadway and drainage design drawings, including grading plans and storm sewer layouts. Incorporates redlines and design revisions from project engineers accurately and efficiently. Assists in preparing construction documents, quantity takeoffs, and exhibits for permitting and bidding. Maintains organized cad files and follows firm drafting standards and project file conventions. Supports permitting submittals to agencies such as ALDOT, ADEM, Mobile County, City of Mobile, and other local municipalities as needed. Able to multitask across multiple projects and stay flexible with workload and production demands. Able to produce quality work on fast-tracked projects without sacrificing accuracy. Maintains a positive attitude and works well as part of a team. On time and consistent attendance is required. Minimum Requirements for CAD Design Technician Must have verifiable cad technician experience in municipal infrastructure (water, sanitary sewer, roadway, and/or drainage). Must have working knowledge and experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D; experience with MicroStation and Esri ArcGIS is a plus. High school diploma or equivalent, but preferred degree/certificate in a related field. Must be able to read and interpret redlines, survey data, and engineering design notes. Must be able to communicate effectively with others. Must be able to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
Preferred:
Associate's degree or certificate in Civil Engineering Technology, Drafting/CAD Technology, or related field. Experience with municipal infrastructure projects (water, sanitary sewer, roadway/drainage). Familiarity with permitting documentation. Experience with GIS software or point cloud/survey data integration. Prior experience in an engineering consulting or municipal engineering environment. Physical Requirements Ability to work in the office most/all of the time. Be able to withstand sedentary positions for most of the workday.
