Position Summary GSG is seeking an experienced and motivated Civil / Transportation Design Manager to lead our Design Group. This leadership position is responsible for overseeing transportation, utility, and site development design projects; managing engineering staff; ensuring technical excellence; and supporting business growth initiatives. The successful candidate will serve as both a technical leader and client relationship manager while delivering high-quality engineering solutions to public and private sector clients. Key Responsibilities Lead, mentor, and manage a multidisciplinary team of engineers, technicians, project managers, and design professionals. Oversee the planning, design, and delivery of transportation, utility, and site development projects. Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, agencies, and key stakeholders. Manage project budgets, schedules, staffing, and resource allocation to ensure successful project delivery. Collaborate with company leadership and technical staff across multiple disciplines to support strategic growth initiatives. Direct the preparation and review of engineering plans, specifications, cost estimates, studies, and technical reports. Ensure compliance with client requirements, applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements. Establish and enforce Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) procedures for all projects. Support business development activities, including proposal preparation, client presentations, and project pursuits. Promote a positive team culture focused on technical excellence, innovation, and professional growth. Qualifications Required Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program. Illinois Professional Engineer (P.E.) license. Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in transportation engineering and design. Demonstrated experience managing transportation projects for agencies such as IDOT, CDOT, Illinois Tollway, transit agencies, rail agencies, or municipal clients. Proven experience leading and supervising multidisciplinary engineering teams. Strong understanding of project management principles, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource management. Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously while maintaining high-quality deliverables. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Working knowledge of Bentley MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer (ORD), and CONNECT Edition applications. Preferred Experience serving as Project Manager or Design Manager on large transportation infrastructure projects. Existing relationships with transportation agencies and municipal clients throughout Illinois and the Midwest.
