Our work ranges from administrative buildings and major modernizations to secure and mission-critical facilities, research laboratories, data centers, industrial facilities, and aircraft hangars. Position Summary As a Junior Architectural Designer, you will work alongside architects and our in-house MEP engineers to develop coordinated designs and construction documents for complex government facilities. You will receive direct mentoring while building expertise in Revit, technical detailing, multidisciplinary coordination, and secure-facility design. What You Will Do Support the planning and design of government, mission-critical, and secure facilities from concept through construction documents. Develop coordinated architectural drawings and models in Autodesk Revit under the direction of project architects and project managers. Assist with central-model coordination, project setup, Revit family development, and clash detection and troubleshooting. Coordinate architectural work with Alphatec's in-house engineering disciplines. Prepare presentation materials, design studies, code analyses, and documentation for internal and client review. Develop technical details for a variety of construction materials, systems, and building types. Support field surveys, existing-condition documentation, feasibility studies, programming, and planning assignments. Assist with building-code, accessibility, and agency-criteria research, including DoD Unified Facilities Criteria when applicable. Contribute to sustainable-design initiatives and LEED documentation and calculations when required. Communicate clearly and professionally with project teams, consultants, contractors, and client representatives. Organize assigned work across multiple projects and meet established quality, schedule, and budget expectations. Perform other responsibilities appropriate to the position under the direction of project management and executive leadership. Required Qualifications Bachelor's or master's degree in architecture from an accredited or professionally recognized program. One to four years of relevant architectural experience; qualifying internships and co-op experience may be considered. Proficiency in Autodesk Revit and working knowledge of AutoCAD. Foundational understanding of architectural construction documents, building systems, and technical detailing. Strong written, verbal, visual-presentation, organizational, and time-management skills. Ability to collaborate effectively within an integrated architecture and engineering team. Ability to travel to project sites in the Washington metropolitan area and other locations as project needs require. Ability to satisfy project-specific background-screening or security requirements when applicable. Preferred Qualifications Experience supporting federal, state, or local government projects. Experience with major renovation, rehabilitation, or existing-building projects. Exposure to secure, mission-critical, laboratory, data-center, industrial, or institutional facilities.
