DCivil Designer / Civil Project Engineer - Land Development (K‑12 Focus) We are seeking a skilled Civil Designer / Civil Project Engineer to support civil land development projects, with a primary focus on K‑12 educational facilities throughout Southeast Michigan. Approximately 80% of this role is dedicated to K‑12 projects , with the remaining work supporting private‑sector commercial developments. This position sits at a true mid‑level —someone senior enough to independently run design efforts and delegate work to junior staff, but not required to manage clients or budgets like a Project Manager. Role Overview This individual will be responsible for producing and coordinating civil design deliverables, including detailed calculations, quantity takeoffs, and construction documents. They will work closely with internal project managers, architects, and independent clients to move projects forward with minimal oversight. Key Responsibilities Perform detailed civil design calculations and quantity take‑offs Produce construction documents using AutoCAD and Civil 3D Design grading, surfacing, and sanitary/storm sewer systems Support commercial, residential, and educational land development projects Coordinate with architects and internal teams to ensure accurate, complete drawings Delegate and review work performed by junior production staff Attend occasional site visits for planning meetings and drawing reviews Operate primarily in the office environment Ideal Candidate Profile This role does not require a licensed engineer or engineering degree , as long as the candidate has strong, hands‑on Civil 3D design experience . The ideal person is someone project managers can trust to "take a project and run with it" without constant direction. Required Qualifications 4+ years of hands‑on AutoCAD and Civil 3D design experience Strong experience with: Grading and surfacing Sanitary and storm sewer design Site / land development projects Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel Ability to work independently and manage multiple design tasks Preferred / Bonus Qualifications Prior K‑12 project experience Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering Core Skills AutoCAD Civil 3D Civil Drafting & Design Site / Land Development Construction Documentation Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Detroit, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $42.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
