Job Description

Designer I (Engineering Drafter) The Engineering Drafter supports Engineering design team by executing simple ECO for drawing updates, documentation updates, simple 3D modeling and 2D creation. Position is responsible for obsolescence and change of supplier validation, running testing and preparing technical report for engineering to validate. This position requires design skills, attention to detail and the ability to follow technical instructions under Engineering guidance. When Engineering workload is low, the technician may support build of engineering prototypes and testing. This role reports to the Design Engineering leader. Who are we? Today Ducommun is a global provider of innovative manufacturing solutions for customers in the aerospace, defense and industrial markets. We specialize in electronic and structural systems, producing complex products and components for commercial aircraft platforms, mission-critical military and space programs, and sophisticated industrial applications. Our Performance Center in Carson, CA is the Engineered Products Group site for our Human Machine Interface, Motion Control Device, and Radio Frequency (RF) product lines. Job Summary Perform basic mechanical design and drafting activities using SolidWorks or other approved CAD software. Create and modify simple 3D parts, assemblies, and models under Engineering guidance. Create and revise 2D engineering drawings, including dimensions, notes, views, and other required details. Execute simple Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) based on Engineering instructions and approved redlines. Incorporate engineering changes into drawings, models, and related documentation. Review drawings and models for accuracy, completeness, and consistency with provided engineering requirements. Maintain organized CAD files and follow established file naming, revision, and document-control practices. Update BOMs, drawings, specifications, and related documentation. Maintain accurate revisions and engineering records. Support product obsolescence and supplier-change documentation. Organize and perform assigned validation testing under Engineering supervision. Record test conditions, measurements, observations, and results. Identify and communicate discrepancies or unexpected results. Compile test data and prepare technical reports for Engineering review. Maintain testing and validation records. Communicate effectively with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality. Perform other Engineering activities as assigned. Required Skills and Qualifications Proficient in SolidWorks or comparable CAD software. A bility to read mechanical drawings and assembly instructions. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to follow technical instructions and established procedures. Required Experience and Education High school diploma or equivalent required. 1 - 3 years of experience in CAD, drafting, mechanical design, or related work preferred.
