Aerospace | Engineering | Testing & Manufacturing Position Summary BBSI has partnered with a well-established engineering, manufacturing, and testing organization supporting the aerospace, defense, subsea, and advanced technology industries. We are seeking a hands-on Fiber Optics Technician to support the assembly, termination, splicing, testing, inspection, and troubleshooting of fiber optic components and systems. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented technician who enjoys precision work and wants to expand their technical knowledge while working alongside experienced engineers in a highly specialized environment. Key Responsibilities Assemble, terminate, splice, inspect, and test fiber optic cables and components. Perform fusion and mechanical splicing of single-mode and multimode fiber. Prepare fibers through stripping, cleaning, cleaving, polishing, and connectorization. Perform optical testing using equipment such as optical power meters, light sources, OTDRs, microscopes, and related test instruments . Inspect fiber ends, connectors, splices, and assemblies for workmanship and performance. Measure and document insertion loss, continuity, signal integrity, and other test results. Troubleshoot damaged fibers, poor connections, excessive loss, and other performance issues. Read and follow engineering drawings, schematics, work instructions, test procedures, and technical specifications. Support prototype builds, engineering projects, testing, and specialized customer requirements. Maintain accurate test records, travelers, inspection documentation, and traceability. Maintain fiber optic tools and test equipment and ensure equipment is properly handled and calibrated. Follow established quality, safety, cleanliness, and contamination-control procedures. Collaborate closely with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, and Testing teams. Qualifications 2+ years of hands-on fiber optic, photonics, electro-optical, aerospace, electronics, or related technical experience preferred. Experience with fiber preparation, termination, splicing, connectorization, and testing . Hands-on experience with fusion splicing equipment strongly preferred. Familiarity with OTDRs, optical power meters, light sources, microscopes, or similar test equipment. Understanding of single-mode and multimode fiber and basic optical principles. Ability to perform detailed, precision work with small and delicate components. Ability to read technical drawings, procedures, and specifications. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Excellent attention to detail and documentation. Experience working in an aerospace, defense, engineering, laboratory, cleanroom, or precision manufacturing environment is a plus. Fiber optic certification such as CFOT or equivalent is a plus but not required.
