Job Description

Position Overview We are seeking an experienced and meticulous Rework Technician to join our Legacy Engineering team. In this role, you will perform controlled board-level repairs, component rework, mechanical modifications, and preparation for retest on legacy embedded-computer products. This role also owns the day-to-day operational readiness of our Ball Grid Array (BGA) rework capability, ensuring high-reliability workmanship, strict traceability, and rigorous adherence to approved engineering instructions.
Key Responsibilities Board Repair & Rework:
Execute component removal, replacement, and board-level repairs (including through-hole, surface-mount, jumpers, and sockets) in accordance with approved procedures and engineering dispositions. Inspect assemblies for physical damage and defects before routing to test owners.
BGA Capability Ownership:
Oversee the day-to-day operation, readiness, and maintenance of BGA rework equipment, tooling, thermal profiles, and software configurations. Execute BGA removal, site preparation, reballing, and replacement within established process controls.
Traceability & Quality Control:
Maintain precise traceability for boards, removed/installed components, and rework cycles. Follow strict ESD, safety, and quality standards, and escalate immediately if unexpected damage or out-of-scope conditions arise.
Secondary Manufacturing Support:
During resource constraints, support board-level mechanical assembly, ruggedization, cable/harness fabrication, and assist engineers in developing standard work instructions. Required Qualifications Technical certification, Associate degree , formal military electronics training, or equivalent hands-on electronics repair experience. 3+ years of demonstrated experience with electronic assembly, advanced soldering/desoldering, and printed-circuit-board repair (both through-hole and surface-mount). Proven experience with BGA removal, replacement, reballing, and thermal-profile execution (formal BGA equipment training preferred). Proficiency using microscopes, hot-air systems, preheaters, and specialized laboratory repair tooling. Ability to read and interpret complex schematics, assembly drawings, bills of materials, and engineering dispositions. Relevant industry certifications (such as IPC J-STD-001, IPC-A-610, or
IPC-7711/7721
) are strongly preferred.
