Role:
The Splicer I/Fiber plays a critical role in the construction and maintenance of fiber optic networks, ensuring high-quality connectivity and communication infrastructure. This position involves the precise splicing of fiber optic cables to create seamless and reliable connections that meet industry standards. The role requires working in various environments, including outdoor construction sites and indoor facilities, often under varying weather conditions. The Splicer I/Fiber collaborates closely with project managers, engineers, and other technicians to complete installations on schedule and troubleshoot any issues that arise. Ultimately, this position contributes directly to the expansion and reliability of fiber optic networks that support modern communication systems across the United States.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. Basic understanding of fiber optic technology and splicing techniques. Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams and manuals. Physical ability to work in outdoor environments and handle fiber optic cables and tools. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification in fiber optic splicing or related telecommunications field. Experience working in construction or telecommunications industries. Familiarity with industry standards such as ANSI/TIA/EIA and OSHA safety regulations. Proficiency with fiber optic testing equipment such as OTDRs and power meters. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Responsibilities:
Perform fusion and mechanical splicing of fiber optic cables with accuracy and attention to detail. Prepare and inspect fiber optic cables and connectors to ensure proper installation and functionality. Test spliced fibers using specialized equipment to verify signal integrity and troubleshoot faults. Follow safety protocols and industry standards to maintain a safe working environment on construction sites. Document splicing activities, test results, and maintain accurate records for project reporting. Collaborate with team members to coordinate splicing activities and meet project deadlines. Maintain and calibrate splicing and testing equipment to ensure optimal performance.
