The Maintenance & Automation Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and optimizing automated manufacturing equipment, production machinery, robotics, and control systems. This position ensures equipment operates safely, efficiently, and with minimal downtime through preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance practices. The technician supports automation initiatives, facility maintenance activities, equipment upgrades, and continuous improvement efforts to maximize operational performance and reliability.
Key Responsibilities:
Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair automated production equipment, robotics, and manufacturing systems. Diagnose and repair electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and automation-related issues. Troubleshoot and support PLCs, HMIs, industrial networks, sensors, drives, servos, and control systems. Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities according to established schedules. Respond to equipment breakdowns and production interruptions to minimize downtime and maintain productivity. Calibrate, test, and validate automated equipment to ensure proper operation and product quality. Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, blueprints, and technical manuals. Support robotic systems including programming modifications, troubleshooting, and maintenance activities. Assist with installation, startup, commissioning, and validation of new equipment and automation projects. Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action activities to eliminate recurring equipment failures. Identify and implement opportunities to improve equipment reliability, productivity, safety, and efficiency. Collaborate with Production, Engineering, Quality, and Tooling teams to optimize manufacturing processes. Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, spare parts usage, and equipment documentation. Recommend and assist with the procurement of replacement components, equipment upgrades, and spare parts inventory management. Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, quality requirements, and environmental standards. Utilize maintenance software, diagnostic tools, and technical resources to support maintenance activities. Safely operate hand tools, power tools, testing instruments, forklifts, lifts, and other maintenance-related equipment as authorized. Participate in training and cross-functional development activities to expand technical capabilities. Support Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, and Operational Excellence initiatives. Perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge of PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Automation Direct, or equivalent), HMIs, and industrial control systems. PLC troubleshooting and programming experience. Robotics troubleshooting, maintenance, and programming. Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, and technical manuals. Ability to troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, robotic, and automation systems. Knowledge of motors, servos, VFDs, sensors, conveyors, and machine vision systems. Understanding of industrial networking protocols including EtherNet/IP, Profinet, and Modbus. Familiarity with preventive and predictive maintenance techniques. Knowledge of Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and continuous improvement methodologies. Strong problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of OSHA regulations and industrial safety standards. Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
