Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a motivated and skilled Underground Fiber Technician to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting underground fiber optic systems that form the backbone of modern communication networks. Your expertise will ensure reliable connectivity for residential, commercial, and industrial clients by executing precise cable splicing, system testing, and network infrastructure setup in outdoor environments. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with cutting-edge fiber optic technology while contributing to vital telecommunications services that keep communities connected. Responsibilities Install, repair, and maintain underground fiber optic cables and telecommunications network infrastructure in outdoor settings. Operate heavy equipment such as trenchers, backhoes, and bucket trucks safely and efficiently during installation projects. Experience with Ditch Witch and/or Vermeer trenching machines a plus! Use diagnostic tools and telecommunications testing equipment to verify system performance and troubleshoot issues promptly. Perform fiber splicing, ensuring high-quality connections that meet industry standards. Conduct telecommunication operations including cable pulling, trenching, backfilling, bore and conduit placement. Climb poles using appropriate safety gear when required for overhead work. Qualifications Proven experience in field service roles involving outdoor telecommunications or construction work. Strong knowledge of fiber optic systems installation, splicing (fiber splicing), testing (telecommunications testing equipment), and troubleshooting. Ability to operate heavy equipment such as bucket trucks, trenchers, power tools, and hand tools safely and effectively. Experience working with telecommunication operations including cabling, conduit installation, trenching, and backfilling. Climbing ability with proper safety procedures for pole work. Strong physical stamina for outdoor work in varying weather conditions along with excellent safety awareness. Construction experience combined with technical proficiency in troubleshooting complex fiber optic or electrical issues is highly desirable. This position is considered a contractor position, 1099. No benefits. Pay is production based, great pay rates! Must have a reliable Truck with capacity to tow equipment on trailer such as Trenching machines. Must be willing to work up to 6 days weekly, Monday through Saturday. Current worksites are within approximately 50-mile radius of Hattiesburg, MS. Must be able to pass background check. Application Question(s): Do you have a Truck with towing capacity?
