Job Description
Raleigh Fire Department:
Fleet Maintenance Specialist mechanics who obtain an Automative Service Excellence (ASE) certification are eligible for a salary incentive ( 5% ) and certification fee reimbursement The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description. Performs advanced fleet repairs and preventative maintenance on fire apparatus such as aerial ladders, fire engines, and heavy-duty rescue trucks, using the set of tools provided Troubleshoot issues with fire pumps, aerial devices, drivetrains, cooling systems, and electrical componentsEducation and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent and at least 6 months of training beyond High School in Automotive Repair or related field, with 3 to 5 years' experience in automotive repair, vehicle electronics, or a related field OR Any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted.Licensing and Certifications:
Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire Valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 90 days of hire Automotive Service Excellence certifications ( City of Raleigh can provide fee reimbursement for obtaining this certification )ADA and Other Requirements:
Work Environment and Physical Effort:
Medium:
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.Work Environment:
Work is typically performed in an o utdoor environment, s treet environment (near moving traffic), vehicle, or shop environment . Employees may occasionally work in an o ffice or similar indoor environment.Work Exposures:
There is frequent exposure to m oving mechanical parts . Employees may occasionally be exposed to e xtreme cold (below 32 degrees), extreme heat (above 100 degrees), fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals or substances, or l oud noises (85+ decibels average over 8-hour working day such as heavy trucks, jack hammers, leaf blowers, lawn mowers, construction).
