Heartline Staffing, in partnership with Purple Cow Recruiting, is seeking an experienced Technical Specialist - Automation for an onsite commissioning opportunity in Bowling Green, Ohio. This role supports commissioning, startup, and operations for power and energy infrastructure and requires advanced hands-on automation expertise across PLC, DCS, SCADA, HMI, enterprise automation systems, and industrial communication protocols.POSITION OVERVIEW
The Technical Specialist - Automation provides advanced technical support throughout commissioning, energization, startup, system turnover, and operational transition. This individual will work closely with Engineering, Construction, Operations, and OEM teams to validate automation systems, troubleshoot field issues, support FAT/SAT activities, manage configuration and documentation requirements, and help ensure safe and reliable system performance.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Support commissioning, startup, and operations for power and energy infrastructure including BESS, substations, and generation assets Coordinate FAT/SAT activities, systemization, punch-list closure, and system turnover Develop and execute commissioning plans, procedures, automation test protocols, and readiness reviews Provide real-time PLC, DCS, HMI, and SCADA troubleshooting during energization and startup Validate startup and shutdown logic, alarm management, and SCADA integration Manage automation configuration requirements, backups, version control, change tracking, and compliance Support cybersecurity initiatives, control system patching, and hardware lifecycle activities Troubleshoot industrial communication protocols including Modbus, DNP3, andIEC 61850
Prepare technical briefings, commissioning readiness reviews, and post-event summaries Develop corrective action plans and support operator training and knowledge transfer Maintain system turnover packages, redline validation, and commissioning documentation Collaborate across Engineering, Construction, Operations, and OEM teams Apply lessons learned to improve future commissioning processes and system reliabilitySCHEDULE & WORK ENVIRONMENT
12-Hour Day Shifts - 6:30 AM to 6:30 PM Seven Days On / Seven Days Off Occasional Night and Holiday Shiftwork Fully Onsite in Bowling Green, Ohio Field-Based Commissioning Environment Work may include extreme temperatures, loud areas, confined spaces, and elevated work areasRequirements:
High School Diploma orGED REQUIRED
Minimum 8 Years of Progressive Power Generation, Energy Infrastructure, Commissioning, or Industrial Automation ExperienceREQUIRED
Hands-On PLC ExperienceREQUIRED
Hands-On DCS ExperienceREQUIRED SCADA
Systems and HMI Interface ExperienceREQUIRED
Advanced Enterprise Automation Systems Experience such as AssetCentre or EquivalentREQUIRED
Experience with Configuration Management, Backups, Version Control, and ComplianceREQUIRED
Knowledge of Industrial Communication Protocols including Modbus, DNP3, andIEC 61850 REQUIRED
Commissioning Workflow Experience Including System Turnover Packages, Redline Validation, and Documentation TrackingREQUIRED
FAT/SAT and Automation Test Protocol ExperienceREQUIRED
Strong Safety Awareness During Energization and High-Risk Commissioning ActivitiesREQUIRED
Microsoft Office and Standard Field Reporting Tool ProficiencyREQUIRED
Ability to Work 12-Hour, 7-On / 7-Off Rotating ShiftsREQUIRED
Ability to Work Occasional Nights and HolidaysREQUIRED
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Related Field Preferred Power Generation, BESS, Substation, or Energy Infrastructure Experience Preferred Knowledge of NFPA 70E, IEEE, and NERC Standards Preferred Not ready to apply?
