Job Description

Job Title:
Automation Technician Our Vision:

The role involves supporting the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of mobile hydraulic systems and associated automation equipment in a field environment. The position requires a hands-on technician capable of diagnosing and resolving mechanical and system issues while ensuring equipment reliability and uptime. The technician will also assist with instrumentation, communication systems, and basic automation functions, working closely with operations, completions, and technical teams. This is a field-based role requiring adaptability to changing environments, frequent equipment movement, and exposure to demanding operating conditions.

Responsibilities:

Diagnose and troubleshoot hydraulic systems, including accumulator-based systems and large hydraulic valves Perform hands-on mechanical work such as breaking fittings, replacing components, and system cleanup Support mobilization, setup, and re-commissioning of skid-mounted equipment Identify and resolve issues related to air locks, contamination, and general field-related system failures Install and wire instrumentation such as pressure transmitters Verify signal communication between field devices and control systems (PLC/SCADA) Assist in troubleshooting automation systems, including PLCs and HMIs Validate field and historical operational data for accuracy and reliability Configure and troubleshoot communication protocols (e.g., Modbus RTU/TCP, Modbus 485/232, Ethernet communication, Modbus/TCP and Modbus/RTU communication between ESPs and PLC) Diagnose and resolve connectivity issues between field devices and control systems Set up and maintain field communication systems, including wireless networks and remote connectivity tools Provide technical support for field devices such as tablets and laptops Coordinate with cross-functional teams including operations, completions, IT, and automation groups Ensure equipment is operational, safe, and ready for deployment within required timelines

Skills and Qualifications:
Required:

Strong mechanical background (oilfield, maintenance, or similar field environment) Minimum 5 years experience Hands-on experience working with hydraulic systems and mechanical equipment Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues independently in the field Basic knowledge of electrical and instrumentation systems (wiring, transmitters, signal verification) Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work without step-by-step direction Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams Willingness to work in physically demanding field environments
