Job Description

Overview Insight Global is seeking a Fiber Technician II / Fiber Splicer to support fiber optic infrastructure projects across client environments. This individual will be responsible for the installation, splicing, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of fiber optic networks. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with fiber optic cabling, ribbon splicing, fusion splicing, fiber testing, and network infrastructure deployments in fast-paced field environments. Duties Install, repair, and maintain fiber optic cables and associated telecommunications infrastructure in outdoor settings. Operate heavy equipment such as bucket trucks and other construction machinery safely and efficiently during installation projects. Perform fiber splicing using specialized tools, ensuring minimal signal loss and adherence to industry standards. Conduct telecommunications testing using specialized equipment to verify network integrity, signal quality, and system performance. Interpret technical drawings, schematics, and engineering troubleshooting guides to accurately execute installation and repair tasks. Use hand tools, power tools, voltmeters, and diagnostic devices to troubleshoot issues within fiber optic networks and electrical systems. Collaborate with engineering teams to interpret technical specifications and implement cabling solutions aligned with project requirements. Adhere strictly to safety standards outlined by the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) during all outdoor operations. Support telecommunications outside plant operations by managing cable routing, splicing, testing, and documentation. Assist in the construction of new network infrastructure including Ethernet LANs (Local Area Networks), WANs (Wide Area Networks), and telephony systems. Climb utility poles or structures safely while following proper climbing techniques and safety protocols. Maintain detailed records of work performed using computer networking tools and schematics for future reference. Requirements 2-4+ years of fiber optic installation experience Experience installing, terminating, testing, troubleshooting, and splicing fiber optic cabling. Proficient with both single-mode (SMF) and multi-mode (MMF) fiber systems. Experience with high count strand fiber 288+ Experience terminating various fiber connectors including LC, SC, ST, FC, SMA, FDDI, and MPO/MTP. Ability to perform mechanical and fusion splicing, including building entrance, maintenance, and direct-buried splices. Experience testing and troubleshooting fiber using: OTDR Fluke DTX 180 Power Meter/Light Source (PMLS) Ability to identify and resolve network and end-to-end fiber issues. Basic copper cabling and termination experience, including
CAT3/CAT5
terminations, patch panels, and 66/110 blocks.
Pay:
$30.00 - $40.00 per hour
