What to Expect Consider before submitting an application: This position is expected to start January 2027 and continue through the entire Winter/Spring term (i.e through April/May 2026) or into Summer 2027 ifavailable. We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks,full-time (40 hours/week) and on-site,for most internships.

The Tesla Energy Compliance team is looking for a Compliance Test Engineer to support the global deployment of grid interactive, grid support and micro-grid inverters. In this role you'll be responsible for grid certifications, ranging from identifying market entry requirements through design consultancy, certification and permitting. Participating in code development groups to advance industry standards while removing technical barriers to facilitate the deployment of innovative product technologies.

Fremont, CA What You'll Do

Run test cases on Tesla energy products for grid and safety compliance. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to troubleshoot the EUT and prepare alternative solutions, negotiate testing scope and pass/fail criteria with NRTLs while meeting project timeline and safe work practices

Testing for inverters, converters & battery modules for product certification.

Setup test configuration hardware and firmware, post process test results and submit results to certification body

Propose and implement process improvement opportunities to facilitate testing and certification process

Create configuration file for each country/utility to meet grid compliance requirements

Write Compliance Product Design Requirements (CPDR) summarizing grid and/or safety compliance requirements for design team to achieve compliance

Support product registrations and permitting applications

Consultant to engineering design teams

Research new market entry requirements

Represent Tesla on code and committee groups to aid in renewable code advancement and feed upcoming requirements to internal stakeholders for early adoption

Track codes, standards and regulatory changes and forward plan

Serve as an expert resource for the compliance test engineers

Work with NRTLs to achieve product compliance (Plan and manage NRTLs) What You'll Bring

Pursuing a Degree in Electrical, Electronics Engineering, Power Electronics, or related field

Experience taking a solar power and energy storage systems through a certification process

Experience with ac/dc power supplies, lab measuring equipment.

Experienced in grid interactive and grid support standards

Strong interpersonal and communications skills

Attention to detail and ability to navigate/interpret ambiguity of standards

Proven track record in renewable product certifications

Highly experienced in global grid interaction/support codes and standards

High voltage/power experience

Experience with LabVIEW, Yokogawa, Dewetron or other data acquisition and analyzer tools, grid simulator, RLC load bank and communication interfaces

Expected Compensation

$20.00 - $50.00 + benefits Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
