Skillset Group is seeking a Senior Electrical Controls Engineer located in the Santa Fe Springs, CA area . Join a team that designs and builds custom industrial automation systems for complex process equipment used by leading manufacturers across aerospace, defense, semiconductor, chemical, food processing, water treatment, and other industrial markets. The individual will lead projects from concept through commissioning, including electrical design, PLC/HMI programming, factory testing, startup, and customer support. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who enjoys solving challenging automation problems, collaborating across multiple departments, and seeing custom equipment become fully operational. Salary :
$80-170k/yr +
Performance Bonus Schedule:
Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:00 pm Expected operating
Hours:
40-50 hrs. (depended on workflow) Requirements Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university a MUST. 8+ years of experience designing electrical controls for custom industrial machinery or automated equipment. Strong background programming Allen-Bradley PLCs and HMIs . Experience designing electrical schematics and control panels using AutoCAD Electrical . Expertise with industrial electrical systems, remote I/O, instrumentation, VFDs, motor controls, soft starts, and motion/servo systems. Ability to create Bills of Material (BOMs), technical documentation, and electrical design packages. Experience developing and executing Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and supporting equipment startup and commissioning. Strong troubleshooting skills with industrial automation and control systems. Working knowledge of
NEC , UL-508
, and the ability to interpret P&IDs . Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams). Experience with Siemens PLCs, Safety PLCs, FactoryTalk Remote, EWON, hydraulic systems, or pneumatic systems is a plus. Excellent communication, organization, and project ownership skills with the ability to collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, project management, and customer teams. Willingness to travel approximately 10% for equipment startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, and customer support.
