Job Description

Position OverviewWe are seeking a Controls Engineer to design, develop, program and commission controls/automation systems for material handling equipment. The role focuses on PLC and HMI programming, control system architecture, testing and field commissioning to ensure reliable, safe and efficient operation of production equipment. The Controls Engineer will collaborate with electrical, mechanical and project teams to deliver projects on time and to specification.

Key ResponsibilitiesDesign and develop control system architectures and panel wiring diagrams in collaboration with engineering teams.

Develop, test and maintain PLC programs using industry-standard platforms (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens).Design and implement HMI screens and operator interfaces to support safe and efficient operation.

Perform factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT) and lead field commissioning and start-up activities.

Troubleshoot and resolve system faults, perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.

Create and maintain control system documentation, including design specifications, ladder/structured text code comments, wiring diagrams and commissioning reports.

Integrate control systems with SCADA, MES and other higher-level systems and manage industrial network configurations (EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, etc.).Provide technical support and training to operations and maintenance personnel.

Apply safety standards and best practices to ensure systems meet regulatory and company requirements.

Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to optimize control logic and equipment performance.

QualificationsBachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, Mechatronics or related field, or equivalent experience.3+ years of experience in controls engineering, PLC programming and industrial automation.

Proven experience programming PLCs (Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Siemens or similar) and developing HMI applications (FactoryTalk, WinCC, Wonderware, etc.).Field commissioning and start-up experience on process or manufacturing equipment.

Strong understanding of electrical schematics, instrumentation, control loop tuning and industrial networks (EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, OPC).Proficiency with programming languages and methods such as ladder logic, function block, structured text and sequential function charts.

Experience performing FAT/SAT, generating as-built documentation and creating commissioning reports.

Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail and the ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams.

Willingness to travel to customer sites for commissioning and support as required.
