Role Overview A prominent manufacturer specializing in bespoke automated machinery is expanding its engineering department and seeking a dedicated Controls Engineer to join the team. This role is ideal for professionals eager to manage the full lifecycle of controls projects, spanning from initial design and programming to final testing and implementation. You will collaborate extensively with the mechanical and production teams while gaining direct, hands-on experience with advanced automation technology. This position provides significant technical diversity and the chance to lead projects, all while maintaining a manageable travel schedule. Core Responsibilities Design, code, and debug PLC-based control architectures utilizing Siemens or Allen-Bradley environments. Configure and develop HMI interfaces to enhance machine operation. Draft and update electrical schematics and comprehensive system documentation to ensure project accuracy. Integrate various industrial components including motors, drives, sensors, and PLCs to create cohesive systems. Identify and resolve electrical or control-related challenges during the assembly and testing phases to ensure optimal performance. Partner with mechanical and manufacturing staff to streamline the equipment development process. Oversee the testing, commissioning, and final installation of equipment to ensure successful client handovers. Deliver expert technical guidance to resolve field-based control issues and maintain system reliability. Travel occasionally, roughly 10 to 15 percent of the time, to assist with site installations and client support. Required Qualifications Demonstrated proficiency in developing logic for Siemens or Allen-Bradley PLC platforms. Background in industrial automation and the creation of HMI applications. Comprehensive knowledge of automation hardware, such as VFDs, sensors, motors, and electrical schematics. Proven track record in diagnosing and fixing issues within complex industrial machinery. Capacity to handle controls tasks autonomously while contributing effectively to the wider engineering group. A Bachelor's degree in Automation, Controls, Electrical Engineering, or a comparable field is preferred.
