Job Title:
Electrical Engineer Job Description The Electrical Engineer leads the electrical architecture and detailed design of complex vacuum process equipment from initial concept through manufacturing release. This role converts customer, product, and regulatory requirements into clear electrical specifications that balance performance, safety, cost, and manufacturability. The engineer designs and releases comprehensive electrical schematics, assemblies, layouts, and documentation that integrate power supplies, motion systems, robotics, sensors, and control hardware, while resolving advanced electrical and system-level issues across development, manufacturing, and fielded systems. The position also sets technical direction during design reviews, mentors junior engineers to elevate design quality and consistency, and partners closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless system integration, build, and installation. Responsibilities + Lead the electrical architecture and detailed design of complex vacuum process equipment from concept through manufacturing release. + Translate customer, product, and regulatory requirements into clear electrical specifications that balance performance, safety, cost, and manufacturability. + Design and release electrical schematics, assemblies, layouts, and documentation integrating power supplies, motion systems, robotics, sensors, and control hardware. + Resolve advanced electrical and system-level issues through structured root cause analysis across development, manufacturing, and fielded systems. + Set technical direction during design reviews and provide mentorship to junior engineers to improve overall design quality and consistency. + Partner with Mechanical, Software, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Field Service teams to ensure seamless system integration, build, and installation. + Plan and execute electrical tests and design of experiments, and translate test data into actionable engineering recommendations. + Perform PLC control cabinet design and ensure robust, compliant control solutions for industrial machinery. + Address obsolescence issues for parts and designs, and develop updated solutions that maintain or improve system performance. + Integrate power supplies, motion controllers, PLCs, and electrical interfaces into larger equipment platforms. + Apply working knowledge of vacuum equipment, robotics, and motion control systems to optimize system performance and reliability. + Ensure designs align with CE, UL, TUV, and RoHS requirements and support design-for-compliance practices. + Create clear documentation and presentations that distill complex technical concepts for diverse internal and external audiences. + Collaborate across disciplines and influence technical decisions without direct authority to drive successful project outcomes. Essential Skills + Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with 8+ years of capital equipment design experience, or a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with 6+ years of capital equipment design experience. + Demonstrated ownership of electrical design for complex electromechanical systems. + Professional experience using AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, or a comparable electrical CAD platform. + Advanced expertise in analog and digital circuit design, including schematic development, testing, and formal release. + Hands-on ability to debug electrical issues using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and component-level analysis. + Experience integrating power supplies, motion controllers, PLCs, and electrical interfaces into larger equipment platforms. + Working knowledge of vacuum equipment, robotics, and motion control systems. + Familiarity with CE, UL, TUV, and RoHS requirements and design for compliance practices. + Strong skills in electrical engineering for industrial equipment and machinery. + Experience with high voltage electrical design, primarily digital, and high voltage system considerations. + Ability to design PLC control cabinets for industrial applications. + Experience with microcontrollers and motion control in industrial machinery. + Ability to resolve obsolescence issues for parts and designs in existing systems. + Skill in distilling complex technical concepts into clear documentation and presentations for diverse audiences. + Comfort working across disciplines and influencing decisions without direct authority. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience in electrical design for industrial machinery and equipment. + Digital and analog design for motion control and automation systems. + Exposure to robotics and advanced motion control systems used in vacuum and semiconductor process equipment. + Experience with PLC design and control strategies for complex equipment. + Ability to contribute to root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives across development, manufacturing, and fielded systems. + Strong collaboration skills for working with Mechanical, Software, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Field Service teams. + Capability to mentor junior engineers and contribute to raising overall design quality and consistency. + Interest in advanced semiconductor process technologies such as laser annealing, ion beam deposition and etch, CVD, single wafer etch and clean, and lithography. + Ability to plan and execute electrical tests and design of experiments, and to convert results into practical engineering recommendations. Work Environment The role is based in a standard professional office environment within a facility where manufacturing and engineering activities are performed on site. The Electrical Engineer primarily works in the office area, collaborating closely with engineering, product marketing, and other cross-functional teams, with occasional interaction with the manufacturing environment as needed for design validation and integration. The organization offers a supportive culture with good people and a collaborative working style, focused on innovation in semiconductor process equipment and on enhancing device performance, yield, and cost of ownership. Professional business attire appropriate for an office-based engineering environment is expected, and the engineer will use modern engineering tools, electrical CAD platforms, and standard lab equipment such as oscilloscopes and logic analyzers in the course of daily work. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Plainview, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $128000.00 - $162000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
