We're looking for a meticulous Electrical Controls Design Engineer to build and document electrical control systems for custom automation equipment. This position owns the creation of electrical schematics, development of bills of materials (BOMs), and verification that designs meet relevant UL and IEC requirements. The right candidate brings solid EPLAN expertise and a strong grasp of industrial control systems. Key Responsibilities Create and develop electrical control schematics for industrial automation equipment using EPLAN Update and maintain existing control schematics in AutoCAD Build and manage Bills of Materials (BOMs) in line with project needs and internal standards Confirm all designs meet UL, IEC, and other relevant electrical code requirements Produce panel layouts, wiring diagrams, and interconnect drawings Work closely with mechanical engineers, controls engineers, and project teams to integrate electrical systems into the overall machine design Check and verify drawings for accuracy, completeness, and standards compliance Assist panel fabrication, assembly, and field installation teams in resolving design questions Keep documentation current and manage revision control across the project lifecycle Take part in design reviews and continuous improvement efforts Required Qualifications Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related discipline (or equivalent hands-on experience) At least 3 years of experience in electrical controls design within industrial automation or machinery Proficiency with EPLAN Electric P8 and AutoCAD Solid grasp of industrial control power components (circuit breakers, fuses, FLA calculations, SCCR calculations, etc.) Solid grasp of industrial control components (PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, sensors, relays, etc.) Familiarity with industrial fieldbus systems Working knowledge of
UL 508A, NFPA
79, and IEC standards Understanding of automation safety requirements Track record building and maintaining BOMs Skilled at reading and applying technical specifications and standards Preferred Qualifications Background designing control panels for custom or automated equipment Experience with ERP systems for BOM and document management Understanding of panel layout optimization and wire routing best practices Exposure to international project work and CE marking UL MTR Certification Key Skills Careful attention to detail and accuracy Strong documentation and organizational habits Capable of juggling multiple projects and deadlines Strong communicator and team collaborator Work Environment Primarily office-based design position with regular interaction with shop floor and production staff Some travel may be needed for field support or customer visits
