Job Description
The Controls Engineer is responsible for managing automation and control system projects from initial definition through manufacturing, testing, installation, and startup. This role works closely with internal teams, customers, and external stakeholders to ensure all project requirements are met on time, within scope, and to the highest quality standards. The ideal candidate is highly technical, organized, communicative, and capable of leading both the engineering and execution phases of complex automation projects. Key Responsibilities Manage projects from concept through startup, meeting customer requirements and timelines. Collaborate with Project Managers, Engineers, and other stakeholders to define scope and document changes. Drive project schedules; coordinate with design and construction teams to stay on track. Create Bills of Materials (BOMs) and direct Electrical Designers on schematics and panel layouts. Develop PLC, Servo, and HMI programs—using existing code when possible or building new code as needed. Guide Mechanical Designers and Assemblers on sensor placement, device mounting, and cable routing. Create basic manuals and operational documents for equipment. Interpret technical drawings and understand manufacturing processes related to material handling. Communicate clearly across departments and provide direction to team members. Basic Requirements 5-10 years of experience with: Rockwell ControlLogix & GuardLogix PLCs Studio 5000 ME (SE experience a plus) Kinetix motion controllers/drives AC & DC drives Technical degree required. Strong written/verbal communication, organizational, and multitasking skills. Ability to manage deadlines, balance customer and company needs, and maintain project scope/quality/cost. Proficiency with Word, Excel, email, and ERP systems. Ability to follow and give clear instructions, working independently or as part of a team. Preferred Qualifications AutoCAD 2D, AutoCAD Electrical, and/or Inventor/SolidWorks experience Bachelor's degree
