Description Salary Range - $98,000.00 - $120,000.00/year Power Solutions International (PSI) is a leader in large gen-set packaging and enclosures. Our team manages the full lifecycle from application engineering and 3D design to structural fabrication, wiring and piping, sound and thermal management, code compliance, factory acceptance testing, and site support. With scalable production capacity and disciplined program management, PSI delivers repeatable quality and reliable performance on complex builds for mission-critical and industrial applications worldwide. SUMMARY Under the direction of the Chief Electrical Engineer and Lead Electrical Controls Engineer, the Electrical Control Engineer designs electrical systems for safe, effective and efficient operation of electrical equipment used for the electrical power generation industry. The position is responsible for delivering safe, reliable, and cost-effective solutions that meet customer specifications, applicable codes, and industry standards.

REQUIREMENTS

Design, develop, test, and commission electrical control and protection systems for diesel and natural gas generator sets while meeting engineering standards, applicable codes, customer specifications, and project budget requirements.

Review and interpret customer specifications, and sales agreements.

Create and maintain panel/subplate layouts, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and interconnect using AutoCAD Electrical in addition to AC single-line diagrams, AC three-line diagrams.

Program, configure, troubleshoot, and commission generator controllers including ComAp, DSE, DEIF, Caterpillar EMCP, and similar genset controller platforms.

Design engine-generator control systems, including synchronization, load sharing, utility paralleling, peak shaving, and island mode applications utilizing third-party genset controllers.

Demonstrate a clear understanding of engine, generator protection functions, and system configuration.

Evaluate, specify, and select electrical, electronic, control, instrumentation, and protection components.

Develop and maintain PLC and HMI programs for control panels and other equipment such as fuel control system, fuel filtration, pumping, heating, annunciator panels, remote monitoring systems, and day tank applications.

Ability to configure and troubleshoot industrial communication protocols including Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP/IP, CAN, J1939, BACnet, and Profibus.

Create operation, maintenance, commissioning, and troubleshooting manuals for generator and control systems.

Develop Validation Test Requirements (VTR) procedures and reports.

Create and maintain Bills of Material (BOMs) using the PSI ECO process.

Provide technical support to customers, field service personnel, manufacturing teams, and commissioning teams to resolve technical issues.

Mentor less experienced Electrical Controls Engineers and provide technical leadership and guidance.

Support new product development and continuous improvement initiatives.

Stay current with advances in power generation controls, PLC technologies, protection systems, and industry standards.

Travel to customer sites for commissioning, troubleshooting, startup support, and technical assistance as required.

Ensure compliance with all applicable quality, environmental, and safety requirements.

Perform other duties as assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS

Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent (i.e. GED)

Bachelor's degree in engineering and 5+ years of related experience is desired, or

10+ years of progressively responsible related experience or a combination of education and experience

Experience with PSI, Caterpillar, Commins generator sets, including genset controllers, and other engine management systems.

Strong knowledge of AutoCAD Electrical and SolidWorks (3D)

Understanding

NEC, NFPA 70E, NFPA 110, UL 2200, UL 508A, UL

6200, IEEE, and NEMA standards.

Proficiency in MS Office applications.

Willingness to contribute in a team environment.
