About the Role Working under general guidance from supervisors, engineers, or project leads, you will take on increasing responsibility for design tasks and begin managing smaller assignments with greater independence. You will further develop your proficiency in AutoCAD® and expand your capabilities in 3D modeling using Kahuna-specific tools. This role also provides opportunities to support team development by assisting in the training and mentorship of less experienced drafters and designers, while continuing to grow within a collaborative, project-driven engineering environment. Designer II demonstrates competence in producing piping plans, sections, and elevations for engineering projects. What You'll Do P&ID and piping annotation skills; able to pick up red lines following Kahuna standards, spot errors, back-check other's work, and develop P&IDs from walkdowns with general instructions from supervisor, engineer, or lead. Introduction to basic 3D modeling using Kahuna pre-developed tools with some direction from experienced designers.
Basic pipe routing modeling skills:
ability to perform P&ID walkdowns and pick up changes, basic pipe routing between two locations, and introduction to piping rules of thumb and supporting piping. Assist in leading piping on small projects while coordinating with supervisors, designers, and engineers. Coordinate with other design teams to ensure continuous flow of information concerning other engineering disciplines affecting the design execution of a project. Organize and prepare drawings for delivery in a timely manner; able to forecast how long tasks will take to complete and report delays before they happen. Demonstrate ability to functionally communicate technical and administrative project/task details, including correspondence via emails and general documentation. Proactive in communicating project status and workload. Ability to assist with and review drawings of other less experienced designers and markup as necessary to represent a functional design under direction from supervisor, experienced designers, and engineers. Assist in training tasks of less experienced drafters/designers. Demonstrates professional behavior, back-checking work, learning from mistakes, constantly working toward improving efficiency, AutoCAD skills, process knowledge, and industry knowledge. Must be detailed oriented, precise, organized in handling of drawings, and able to prioritize and multitask as an individual. Other duties and special projects as assigned. What You'll Bring 2-4 years of progressive relevant design experience or equivalent; 2 years minimum required. Proficient AutoCAD® skills: knows how to use LISP routines, tools, plotting settings, and CUI; understands AutoCAD® setup, layer properties, xrefs, and is learning project setup. Introduction to Basic 3D modeling using Kahuna pre-developed tools with some direction. Introduction to Navisworks Freedom; can use Selection Tree, isolate lines, find instruments and equipment. Intermediate computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, AutoCAD®, CADWorx P&ID®, and Bluebeam Revu®. Must be detailed oriented, precise, organized in handling of drawings, and able to prioritize and multitask as an individual. Receives general to minimal instruction/support from supervisor or higher-level designer/engineer; works directly with engineer.
