Position OverviewWe are seeking an Energy Engineer to serve as a lead engineer on projects involving commercial and multifamily residential buildings throughout NYC. The role will primarily focus on conducting building energy audits and preparing polished, professional-level reports with limited use of AI.The ideal candidate will have direct experience conducting building surveys of mechanical/HVAC, lighting, and building envelope systems, completing Local Law 87 reports, and performing retro-commissioning activities. Experience as a NYSERDA On-Site Energy Manager is a plus.

The candidate should have experience developing decarbonization project plans from scratch based on existing equipment configurations and building conditions. The role will involve working with manufacturers and vendors to implement HVAC and heat pump solutions, optimize building controls, improve building envelopes, and develop strategies to help buildings meet Local Law 97 requirements.

Strong communication skills are essential. The candidate will coordinate directly with building owners, property managers, vendors, and contractors and must be comfortable managing these relationships professionally.

Job ResponsibilitiesAssess existing building systems, including HVAC, controls, lighting, and building envelope, to identify energy-efficiency opportunities.

Prepare polished, professional-level building energy reports.

Evaluate energy-efficient technologies and determine their suitability for specific site conditions.

Perform detailed energy and carbon savings calculations related to Local Law 97.Analyze financial benefits and potential project savings.

Develop decarbonization plans and Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs).Present energy-efficiency solutions and project plans to building owners and stakeholders.

Coordinate with manufacturers, vendors, contractors, and other project stakeholders.

Track project progress in databases and provide project status updates.

Support compliance with NYC energy and building requirements.

Experience RequirementsProven experience in Energy Engineering, preferably with a Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering background.

Experience with project management related to energy, building systems, or construction projects.

Strong understanding of commercial and multifamily residential building systems.

Experience with HVAC controls, commissioning, and retro-commissioning processes.

Familiarity with NYC Local Laws, energy codes, building codes, and utility incentive programs.

Experience managing vendors and contractors.

In-depth knowledge of energy, building, and construction codes.

Direct experience conducting building and equipment audits.

Experience preparing professional building reports with Energy Conservation Measures and recommendations.

Experience performing detailed energy savings and carbon calculations.
