PLANNET is seeking an experienced Audiovisual Director to lead and support our growing audiovisual consulting and design practice. This role combines people leadership, technical expertise, project delivery, workforce planning, and client engagement. The Audiovisual Director will directly manage members of the AV team while remaining actively involved in complex projects, design quality, resource planning, and the continued development of the practice. The ideal candidate is an experienced audiovisual consultant and leader who understands the full lifecycle of commercial AV design—from programming and drawing development through bidding, construction administration, and project closeout—and can help align team capabilities with project and business needs. ResponsibilitiesTeam Leadership & Development Lead, mentor, and develop audiovisual consultants and designers within the practice. Manage employee performance, coaching, career development, and professional growth. Support recruitment, interviewing, onboarding, and training of new team members. Promote accountability, collaboration, professionalism, and continuous improvement across the AV team. Establish clear expectations for technical quality, project performance, communication, and client service. Workforce Planning & Operations Monitor current and future project workload and align staffing with project demand. Coordinate resource allocation across projects to support appropriate staffing, utilization, and project delivery. Maintain visibility into team utilization, project performance, and overall operational efficiency. Work with company leadership and Project Managers to forecast staffing needs and identify potential workload or capacity concerns. Help scale the AV practice by strengthening processes, technical capabilities, and team structure. Audiovisual Consulting & Design Lead and support audiovisual consulting and design efforts for commercial projects. Participate in client programming discussions to establish project goals, operational requirements, and system needs. Develop and review audiovisual design deliverables, including: Basis of Design narratives, Technical specifications, Floor plan and reflected ceiling plan markups, Audiovisual system single-line diagrams, Infrastructure and pathway requirements, Equipment and display elevations, Equipment rack elevations, Detailed installation requirements and design details. Provide technical guidance on audiovisual systems including: Displays and projection systems, Sound and speech reinforcement, Audio and video conferencing, Signal processing, distribution, and routing, Control systems, and Network-based audiovisual systems. Coordinate audiovisual requirements with architectural, electrical, structural, IT, low-voltage, and other building systems. Review project deliverables for technical accuracy, consistency, constructability, and adherence to PLANNET standards. Project Delivery & Construction Administration Support projects throughout all phases of design and construction. Review contractor RFIs, product submittals, shop drawings, and other construction documentation. Coordinate with contractors, design teams, owners, and other project stakeholders during construction. Perform site walks to evaluate installation progress and adherence to design intent, project requirements, and industry best practices. Conduct punch walks, develop punch lists, and support project closeout. Assist project teams with resolving complex technical, coordination, or delivery challenges. Bidding & Procurement Support Manage and support audiovisual bid and RFP processes, including: Identifying appropriate vendors and integrators, Assembling and distributing bid documentation, Conducting pre-bid meetings, Responding to bidder questions and coordinating clarifications, Reviewing and analyzing bid responses, Participating in post-bid interviews and review meetings, and Developing recommendations for clients and project teams. Client & Business Leadership Serve as a technical leader and escalation point for clients, project teams, and internal staff. Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, architects, contractors, integrators, and industry partners. Participate in client meetings where audiovisual expertise or leadership is required. Support proposals, scopes of work, fee development, and pursuit efforts. Contribute meaningfully to the business development efforts of the firm. Identify opportunities to expand PLANNET's audiovisual capabilities, services, and client relationships. Represent PLANNET professionally at client meetings and industry events. Qualifications Significant professional experience in the commercial audiovisual industry, preferably including audiovisual consulting and design. Demonstrated experience leading teams, mentoring technical professionals, or managing audiovisual staff. Extensive knowledge of audiovisual system design, including display, projection, conferencing, sound reinforcement, signal processing, distribution, routing, and control systems. Strong understanding of audiovisual infrastructure and architectural coordination requirements, including pathways, structural support, equipment locations, electrical requirements, and architectural integration. Working knowledge of IT infrastructure, networking, digital media delivery technologies, network hardware, and system architecture as they relate to audiovisual systems. Experience developing audiovisual drawings, specifications, design narratives, system diagrams, and construction documentation. Experience with construction administration, including RFIs, submittals, site observations, punch walks, and project closeout. Experience coordinating with architects, engineers, contractors, audiovisual integrators, owners, and other project stakeholders. Strong project planning, workload management, and organizational skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality deliverables. Ability to balance leadership responsibilities with active participation in project delivery. Ability to operate effectively with limited supervision and exercise sound professional judgment. Professional and positive attitude in a fast-paced, deadline-driven consulting environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Bluebeam Revu. Preferred Qualifications AVIXA CTS or CTS-D certification. Experience managing or directing an audiovisual consulting or design team. Experience with workforce planning, utilization management, and project forecasting. Experience supporting business development and proposal efforts for professional services. Established relationships within the commercial audiovisual, architecture, engineering, or construction industries.
