Engineering Manager
Job Description
About Tamarack Grove Engineering Tamarack Grove Engineering is a structural engineering firm built on relationships, with a growing presence across North America. We work across five market sectors — Commercial, Manufacturing, Facilities, Modular, and Federal/Public, delivering structural solutions for clients from coast to coast. Our team is tight-knit, our work is meaningful, and our culture is grounded in six core values: Relationships, Servant Leadership, Respect, Joy, Integrity, and Go Beyond. The Opportunity Our Bozeman, Montana office is the next chapter of our growth story, and we are looking for the right leader to build what comes next. You will establish a strong local presence in Montana while leading projects and relationships that reach across the country. We are looking for an engineer with an entrepreneurial spirit who wants to do more than the technical work: someone who will hire and develop local talent at all levels, grow business in the Bozeman market and beyond, and help steward a national client portfolio. And you will do it from a city where world-class skiing, fly fishing, and trail access are not a weekend trip; they are a Tuesday. You will have the full backing of an established firm, with proven systems, an existing client base, a strong culture, and the infrastructure to support your growth, along with the latitude to build something you can genuinely call your own. The Role The Engineering Team Leader for our Bozeman office will carry full ownership of team production, team leadership, client relationships, business development, and daily office operations for the Bozeman location. This is a hands-on leadership role, not a supervisory one. We are looking for someone who is equally energized by solving a complex structural problem, earning a client's repeat business, and making sure the people around them are set up to do their best work. What You Will Do Technical Production and Quality Maintain meaningful personal production output, including the delivery of complex structural projects with full engineer of record accountability. Provide QA/QC of structural design work performed by all team engineers; seal and stamp work in accordance with P.E. responsibilities. Maintain and update firm-wide engineering standards for production and design based on current codes and best practices. Assist with production, project management, and technical conflict resolution as needed across the team's active project portfolio. Project and Financial Management Prepare and oversee project proposals, fee estimates, specifications, budgets, schedules, and invoices. Plan, schedule, and coordinate project activities across the team to meet client deadlines and profitability targets. Set and forecast team financial goals for projects and personnel; meet or exceed profitability and revenue targets for the team. Monitor team utilization, project margins, and labor budgets; escalate concerns and implement corrective action as needed. Team Leadership and Development Lead, manage, and develop the Bozeman engineering team through coaching, mentorship, consistent feedback, and performance accountability. Support team members and answer technical, industry-related, and company-related questions. Develop team members through team-building activities, performance evaluations, and establishing professional development goals. Partner with firm leadership on hiring decisions, team structure, and long-term Bozeman office growth. Lead weekly L10 team meetings, driving accountability, tracking priorities, and maintaining clear team communication. Provide the team with regular updates on projects, business development activities, and firm leadership direction. Client Relations and Business Development Serve as the primary relationship owner for the Bozeman team's existing client portfolio; actively maintain, strengthen, and grow those relationships to ensure long-term retention and repeat work. Lead business development for the team through client retention, pursuit of new client relationships, fee proposal development, and active participation in TGE's business development strategy. Collaborate with the Business Development and Marketing team on firm-level business development strategy, marketing initiatives, and market sector growth. Identify opportunities to expand service scope with existing clients and pursue new market sectors in alignment with TGE's growth targets. Represent TGE at industry events, professional organizations, client entertainment settings, and in the Bozeman community to build firm visibility and generate new business relationships. Set and actively work toward individual, team, and department business development goals; report progress to firm leadership through established accountability structures. Bozeman Office Operations Serve as the on-site point of contact for the Bozeman office, coordinating with TGE's HR, IT, and administrative teams on office-related needs. Manage daily office operations including supplies, facilities, and vendor communication, ensuring the office reflects TGE's professional standards. Act in a professional manner, exemplifying TGE's core values and mission statement in all internal and external interactions. What We Are Looking For Minimum 5 years of direct structural engineering industry experience, with demonstrated progression into project management and team leadership. E.I.T.
