Lead MEP Project Engineer (HVAC & Building Systems)
Location:
Olathe, Kansas Compensation:
$120,000 - $155,000 Base Salary +
Performance Bonus Travel:
Approximately 20-30% regional travel throughout Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska Lead High-Impact Building Infrastructure Projects We're seeking an experienced Lead MEP Project Engineer to take ownership of complex facility modernization, HVAC, controls, and energy infrastructure projects. This role is ideal for a seasoned engineer who enjoys solving technical challenges, working directly with clients, and guiding projects from concept through implementation. You'll have the opportunity to influence project strategy, mentor team members, and help deliver meaningful improvements to schools, municipalities, healthcare facilities, and commercial buildings. Key Responsibilities Lead facility assessments and site investigations Analyze utility consumption and building performance Develop HVAC, controls, lighting, water conservation, and building envelope solutions Perform engineering calculations and energy savings analyses Develop project budgets and cost estimates Prepare technical audits, reports, and proposal documentation Manage project development schedules and deliverables Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders Review technical submittals and construction documents Conduct field inspections during project implementation Support utility rebate and incentive applications Assist project management teams during procurement and construction activities Mentor junior engineers and technical staff Serve as a trusted advisor to clients throughout project development and execution Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or Construction Science 10+ years of professional engineering experience Professional Engineer (PE) license Strong knowledge of HVAC systems and building mechanical infrastructure Experience with controls integration and building automation systems Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Strong communication and client relationship skills Proven ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities Ability to travel throughout the region as required Preferred Qualifications Commissioning or Retro-Commissioning experience Measurement & Verification (M&V) experience Energy analysis experience Utility rebate and incentive program experience Design-build project experience Microsoft Project experience Energy Performance Contracting experience Ideal Candidate Background We welcome candidates from: MEP consulting firms Mechanical engineering firms Design-build contractors Commissioning providers Building automation and controls companies Healthcare engineering departments Higher education facilities organizations Municipal facility engineering teams Commercial and industrial building engineering groups Project Types Projects may include: K-12 schools Higher education campuses Municipal facilities Healthcare facilities Commercial office buildings Industrial facilities Public infrastructure improvements Career Growth This position offers a clear path toward: Senior Technical Leadership Engineering Manager Operations Leadership Strategic Project Development Roles If you're an experienced MEP professional looking to lead meaningful projects, influence technical outcomes, and advance your career, we'd like to hear from you. #HP
