$66,000 to $80,000 About the Role We are looking for an experienced HVAC technician to join a high-impact engineering laboratory team in Charlotte. This is a hands-on role focused primarily on testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining commercial chiller systems. You will be responsible for the technical execution of chiller test runs and ensuring equipment is operating safely, reliably, and to specification. This is an ideal opportunity for someone with strong commercial chiller experience who enjoys diagnosing complex problems and working independently. Key Responsibilities Set up, operate, and test water-cooled and air-cooled commercial chillers Troubleshoot and maintain chillers, PLCs, VFDs, controls, and instrumentation Perform equipment calibration, measurements, loop tuning, and valve adjustments Monitor lab equipment and supporting systems including pumps, boilers, and cooling towers Identify problems, determine root causes, and coordinate repairs to minimize downtime Work safely with high-power electrical equipment and refrigerant systems Follow all EHS, Arc Flash, Lockout/Tagout, and 5S procedures Required Qualifications High School Diploma or GED 5+ years of commercial HVAC experience Strong hands-on chiller experience Experience servicing, maintaining, troubleshooting, or operating commercial chiller systems Strong understanding of chiller systems and HVAC equipment Ability to troubleshoot problems independently Comfortable working around high-voltage electrical equipment Preferred Qualifications 5+ years of chiller/HVAC operations, service, or maintenance experience Laboratory or test environment experience Experience with water-cooled and/or air-cooled chillers Experience with controls, PLCs, VFDs, or closed-loop systems Loop tuning experience EPA Section 608 certification Associate degree in Mechatronics Engineering Technology or a related technical field, or completion of a skilled trades apprenticeship Important This role requires genuine hands-on commercial chiller experience. HVAC installation experience alone will not be sufficient. Candidates should have a strong understanding of chiller systems and experience servicing, maintaining, troubleshooting, or operating this equipment. Previous chiller laboratory experience is preferred but not required. Candidates with relevant chiller experience gained in a plant, service environment, or customer site will also be considered.
