Job Description

Founded in 1975, BR+A Consulting Engineers maintains a total staff of over 500 employees located at our main office in Boston and branch offices in New York, NY; Philadelphia, PA; Vienna, VA (Washington, DC); Coral Gables (Miami) and Tampa, FL; Chicago, IL; St. Louis, MO; Charlotte and Raleigh, NC; Charleston, SC; Houston, TX; New Haven, CT; Los Angeles, CA; Denver, CO; and Toronto. BR+A provides state-of-the-art integrated and coordinated mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection consulting engineering, technology systems design, lighting design, and building commissioning services.

BR+A is looking for a skilled Mechanical Designer in our Raleigh, NC office. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational and communication skills and a working knowledge of Revit, and their responsibilities will include:

Performing advanced heating and cooling load calculationsDeveloping sections and elevations of complex ductwork and piping areasDeveloping equipment room sizes during SD and DD phasesEditing specifications to reflect the project requirementsDeveloping air and water flowsUnderstanding fan and pump curves to properly select equipment for applicationUsing the psychrometric chart properly for any HVAC systemMeeting with vendors to determine specification requirements for application Coordinating with other disciplines (mepfp, arch, struct, etc) for all HVAC detailsResponding to RFIs for the project, and accurately review submittalsUnderstanding work planning and managing the design process to the available hours in the planUnderstanding the proper scope of
SD, DD, CD
level documents and delivering appropriate documentationModifying sequences of operations for AHUs, CHW and HW systemsUnderstanding both constant and variable flow systems, and properly applying equipmentMeeting with contractors during the bid phase to review the design detailsPerforming field verification and take-offs of existing systems for renovation projects
Position Requirements:
Bachelors degree in Mechanical EngineeringProficient in AutoCAD and RevitEIT (Engineer in Training) a plus3-5 years of experienceExperience in designing Healthcare, Commercial, Higher Education, or Life Science projectsBR+A is a place to learn, to grow, and to work hard for our clients all while being a part of something bigger.
