•Edison, NJ Chief Engineer Opportunity Our client in Edison, NJ is seeking an experienced Chief Engineer to lead plant engineering and maintenance operations on the second shift. This is a direct-hire career opportunity for an experienced Plant Maintenance Manager, Chief Engineer, Maintenance Supervisor, or Engineering Manager with a strong background in industrial equipment, preventive maintenance, HVAC, refrigeration, electrical systems, and facility operations. The Chief Engineer will oversee the plant's maintenance and engineering functions, including supervising and developing maintenance personnel, managing preventive maintenance programs, troubleshooting equipment issues, supporting equipment installations, maintaining regulatory compliance, and ensuring the facility operates safely and efficiently. The ideal candidate has 3-5+ years of plant maintenance and engineering experience in a supervisory capacity and extensive hands-on knowledge of industrial mechanical, electrical, HVAC, refrigeration, and facility systems. Chief Engineer Responsibilities Lead and oversee plant maintenance and engineering operations during the second shift. Supervise, train, develop, and direct maintenance supervisors, technicians, and engineering personnel. Recruit and assist with hiring qualified maintenance personnel in coordination with Human Resources. Develop and implement employee training programs for maintenance and engineering staff. Ensure maintenance personnel are properly trained in equipment operation, troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance procedures. Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive preventive maintenance programs for plant equipment and facility systems. Perform daily plant inspections to identify maintenance, safety, equipment, and facility concerns. Troubleshoot and oversee repairs involving HVAC, refrigeration, electrical/electronic systems, welding, mechanical systems, and industrial production equipment. Direct and participate in the installation, replacement, start-up, repair, and maintenance of industrial machinery and equipment. Coordinate equipment repairs and maintenance to minimize production downtime. Communicate equipment issues, maintenance needs, and operational concerns with department heads and plant leadership. Assist manufacturing management with planning equipment installations and plant equipment layouts. Purchase maintenance supplies, replacement parts, tools, and equipment while remaining within established budget guidelines. Monitor maintenance costs and contribute to cost-control and operational efficiency initiatives. Conduct and participate in facility inspections with regulatory agencies, insurance representatives, and other applicable organizations. Ensure compliance with applicable state, local, industry, environmental, and facility regulations. Promote established workplace safety programs and monitor employee compliance. Ensure maintenance and engineering personnel follow facility security requirements related to site and product security. Maintain positive employee relations and promote effective communication across maintenance, engineering, manufacturing, and operations teams. Support continuous improvement initiatives related to plant reliability, equipment performance, safety, and productivity. Chief Engineer Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate degree in Electronics, Electrical Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline preferred. Equivalent formal technical training and/or relevant work experience may be considered. AIB Engineering Certificate required. 3-5+ years of plant maintenance and engineering experience in a maintenance supervisory or leadership role. Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, refrigeration systems, electrical/electronic equipment, welding, and industrial mechanical systems. Experience with industrial equipment installation, start-up, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair. Strong knowledge of preventive maintenance and plant maintenance programs. Experience supervising and training maintenance technicians, mechanics, engineers, or other skilled maintenance personnel. Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, and facility equipment problems. Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to effectively coordinate maintenance activities within a fast-paced manufacturing or industrial environment. Working knowledge of workplace safety, regulatory compliance, and facility security requirements. Licenses & Certifications Must possess applicable licenses required by the S tate of New Jersey, industry, city, or county, which may include boiler and/or refrigeration licenses depending on facility requirements. AIB Engineering Certificate required. May be required to obtain or maintain authorization to operate applicable heavy equipment, including forklifts. Physical & Environmental Requirements Ability to work in an industrial plant environment where temperatures may reach approximately 100°F. Ability to visually identify equipment conditions, control panels, indicator lights, and normal versus abnormal equipment operation. Ability to hear and identify audible alarms and changes in equipment operation. Ability to distinguish color-coded equipment and indicators. Ability to safely work around industrial machinery and equipment.
