Job Description
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Chief Engineer is responsible for the operation, repair and maintenance of all machinery and equipment of the property. You will oversee all aspects of the Engineering department, including the proper operation, maintenance and repair of all HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, electrical, irrigation, life safety, electrical and mechanical equipment/systems. You will supervise, train, and manage all Engineering staff.Reporting Structure Reports to:

Working proficiency in handling HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry. Ability to lift 50+ pounds and frequently carry objects throughout the property. Ability to walk, climb stairs and ladders, stand for extended periods, kneel, reach, bend, and operate machinery, with the manual dexterity, hearing, and vision needed to safely maintain building systems. Provide or coordinate 24/7 on-call emergency response coverage for building system failures.Specific Requirements:
Develop, coordinate, and monitor Preventive Maintenance programs for all 113 guest rooms, public spaces, and equipment to ensure reliability, safety, and guest/staff comfort. Maintain all Fire and Life Safety equipment in accordance with FDNY guidelines and coordinate required inspections and drills. Ensure compliance with applicable NYC Local Laws and DOB elevator inspection requirements. Implement and maintain OSHA and ADA compliance programs. Manage departmental payroll and supply expenses against budgetary goals; assist in preparing the annual engineering budget. Recruit, train, schedule, and manage the performance of the three engineers on the team, providing ongoing feedback and development. Maintain and utilize a CMMS (computerized maintenance management system) for work order tracking and preventive maintenance scheduling. Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the Hotel Manager.Qualifications:
5+ years of progressive engineering/maintenance experience in a hotel or commercial building environment, including supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. FDNY Fire Safety Director Certificate of Fitness (F-89) required. Additional FDNY Certificates of Fitness relevant to the building's systems (e.g., standpipe/sprinklerF-60/S-12/S-13
) preferred. Refrigeration System Operating Certificate of Qualification preferred. Working knowledge of NYC Local Law compliance requirements relevant to building engineering (LL152, LL126, LL97, etc.). Comprehensive knowledge of hotel-related technology, including guest room technology, internet/network infrastructure, and phone systems. Additional local or state certifications may be required.Benefits
