Position Overview Virginia Construction Trades Academy is seeking an outgoing and experienced HVAC Instructor who is passionate about sharing their knowledge and preparing the next generation of skilled tradespeople. The ideal candidate will combine real-world heating, ventilation and air-conditioning experience with a positive, engaging teaching style. This position involves providing classroom and hands-on instruction, demonstrating safe and proper work practices, and helping students develop the knowledge, confidence and practical skills needed to begin successful careers in the HVAC trade. Responsibilities Deliver engaging classroom and hands-on HVAC instruction Teach HVAC safety, tools, equipment, materials and industry best practices Provide instruction in heating, cooling, ventilation and refrigeration systems Demonstrate installation, maintenance, diagnostic and repair procedures Teach students to use meters, gauges and other HVAC testing equipment Explain electrical controls, refrigerant principles and basic system troubleshooting Supervise hands-on student practice and maintain a safe training environment Prepare lessons, activities and practical assessments Monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback Connect classroom concepts to real-world service and installation situations Encourage students and serve as a positive role model for the trade Follow academy policies, curriculum requirements and applicable Virginia regulations Required Qualifications Current applicable HVAC license or certification through the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR) Professional experience working in the HVAC trade Strong knowledge of HVAC installation, service, maintenance and troubleshooting Working knowledge of electrical controls, refrigeration systems and safe refrigerant handling EPA Section 608 certification Outgoing personality with strong communication and leadership skills Genuine passion for teaching and mentoring the next generation Ability to explain technical information clearly and patiently Dependable, professional and committed to student success Previous teaching experience is helpful but not required.
