Job Description

Engineering Technician SUMMARY The engineering technician is responsible for assuring overall efficiency and safety of engineering lab operations. The technician will provide material sourcing, technical information, and setup assistance to students and engineering faculty, perform checkout of required equipment, materials and supplies to engineering students and maintain engineering laboratory equipment in proper working order to include repair, calibration, and setup. Non-exempt, full-time position. Position is in-person on the campus of Spring Arbor University.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include but are not limited to: Setup, teardown, and cleanup of engineering labs for classes as requested by engineering faculty Operate and maintain engineering lab equipment - electrical and mechanical Train students on various equipment as needed Sourcing and purchasing of supplies and tools relevant to weekly labs Maintaining security and safety of engineering labs and supplies through key control and inventory Assist in the creation of lab manuals and instructional materials. Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervise engineering students and student workers, as directed by the Dean and Engineering chairs, including oversight of projects/tasks assigned to them to meet the needs of the School of Engineering. Work closely with faculty to ensure training needed for specific labs and duties is provided to students. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Industry experience in machine operation, testing, quality control, electrical and mechanical equipment repair and maintenance preferred. Appropriate certificates in machining, welding, CAD, CNC manufacturing, lab safety, electronics, or electrical repair are an advantage; Experience working in a university or educational environment is preferred. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be both technically competent and able to relate to amateur users of equipment in an educational setting. Good organizational, interpersonal, communication, writing skills and the ability to work with faculty and students in a collegial and professional manner are necessary. The ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks is essential as is having excellent attention to detail. Having a working knowledge of the university or academic processes is helpful.
