Job Description

The Corporate Health, Safety, Environmental, and Sustainability (HSES) Engineer supports the development, implementation, and management of Paulo's safety, environmental compliance, and sustainability programs, policies, procedures, and initiatives. A successful person in this position will work with the EHS Manager and plant leadership to advance safety performance, sustainability compliance, and sustainability initiatives across all Paulo locations. This position will help oversee safety and environmental activities; conduct safety and environmental audits and inspections; respond to incidents and near misses; coordinate regulatory reporting and hazardous waste activities; support training programs; maintain records; and assist with the development and continuous improvement of workplace safety, environmental, and sustainability programs. This role serves as a key technical resource for these activities and is intended to develop future leadership for Paulo's HSES program.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Support the management of all safety, environmental, and sustainability needs for Paulo. Assist in developing, maintaining, promoting, and advancing the safety culture across all locations. Develop, monitor, and report key performance indicators aligned to improve HSES performance. Conduct safety and environmental audits, inspections, assessments, and compliance reviews to identify risks and opportunities for improvement. Support development and implementation of programs to monitor compliance with application safety and environmental standards and maintain readiness for regulatory inspections and audits. Assist with the development, implementation, and review of environmental plans, permits, procedures, and standard operating practices for all facilities. Investigate incidents, injuries, near misses, environmental releases, and compliance concerns; work with plant leadership to identify root causes and recommend corrective/preventative actions. Support and maintain Safety STAT notifications, performance metrics, and recognition programs. Work with corporate and plant-level teams to coach, develop, and support team members on HSES matters. Work with Learning & Development Talent Manager to recommend/develop compliance training programs and materials to assist with safety compliance training, environmental training, hazard communication, and accident prevention programs. Prepare and submit reports and correspondence required by OSHA, EPA, DOT, state agencies, local agencies, and other regulatory bodies as required. Monitor federal, state, and local legislation and industry developments affecting safety, environmental, transportation, and sustainability requirements and communicate impacts to management. Serves as a point of contact for regulatory agencies, consultants, auditors, and outside specialists as directed by the EHS Manager. Coordinate and approve the disposal of hazardous waste according to applicable regulations and company procedures; ensure proper documentation and record retention. Analyze environmental, safety, and operational data to identify trends, evaluate risks, and recommend improvement actions. Provide technical support for environmental remediation projects, compliance initiatives, and other special projects as assigned. Track, analyze, and report sustainability performance metrics including energy consumption, natural gas usage, electricity usage, water consumption, waste generation, recycling, and other resource utilization measures. Identify and implement opportunities to reduce utility consumption, waste generation, emissions, and environmental impacts associated with industrial processes while supporting operation efficiency objectives. Travel is required as well as the ability to obtain a passport and travel internationally.
Qualifications:
Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen, this includes THC. A bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, related technical discipline, or equivalent experience. 3-5 years of experience and training in environmental or other EH&S activities, preferred. Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT, DHS, and other federal, state, and local regulations. Experience conducting incident investigations, risk assessments, compliance audits, and corrective action management. Ability to effectively management projects, priorities, and deadlines while working independently and within cross-functional teams. Good communication skills and the ability to work well with people at all levels is essential. Demonstrated initiative, leadership potential, and desire to grow into increasing levels of responsibility. Must be able to work with highly confidential information and maintain its integrity. Must be willing to travel up to 20%. License(s)/Certification(s)
Required:
Valid drivers license and acceptable Motor Vehicle Record in compliance with Paulo's Vehicle Use Policy.
