Job Title:
Industrial Engineer Job Description This Industrial Engineer role focuses on optimizing material flow, developing automation strategies, and designing equipment and processes within a manufacturing environment. The position plays a key role in improving efficiency, quality, and sustainability while supporting major launch programs in the automotive industry. Responsibilities Oversee and optimize material flow, including material movement, layout, routing, and logistics to improve efficiency, quality, and sustainability across the manufacturing operation. Develop and implement automation strategies for material-handling solutions, including automated material-handling systems (AMH), automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS), autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), and lean delivery systems. Design, develop, and integrate machinery and material-handling equipment to support robust and efficient manufacturing processes. Collaborate closely with Safety, Manufacturing, Launch, and Supply Chain teams to align on objectives and deliver integrated solutions that meet production and safety goals. Support feasibility studies and perform cost-benefit analyses for proposed equipment, layouts, and automation projects to ensure sound business decisions. Identify, diagnose, and resolve issues related to material flow, equipment, and processes, driving continuous improvement and risk mitigation. Lead or support project and launch execution activities, ensuring strategies are implemented effectively throughout launch cycles. Develop and execute lean strategies, including creating and optimizing layouts and routings, and overseeing logistics to reduce waste and improve throughput. Manage and coordinate project tasks, timelines, and deliverables, maintaining clear communication with cross-functional stakeholders. Support off-shift activities and occasional weekend work as needed to meet project milestones and address time-sensitive operational needs. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in engineering or a technical field, with a preference for industrial engineering. 3 to 10+ years of experience in a process or manufacturing role. Professional experience in the automotive industry, specifically with an automotive original equipment manufacturer (OEM) or Tier 1 supplier. Strong background in industrial engineering and manufacturing engineering. Demonstrated experience in process improvement within a manufacturing environment. Hands-on experience with material handling and material flow optimization. Experience developing and executing lean strategies, including layouts, routings, and logistics oversight. Knowledge and practical use of automated material-handling solutions such as AMH, ASRS, and AMRs. Strong ability to diagnose issues, solve complex problems, and innovate in dynamic environments. Proven capability to navigate ambiguity while managing overall project execution and priorities. Solid project management skills, including planning, coordination, and follow-through. Flexibility to support off-shift activities when required by project demands. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience supporting launch programs in the automotive industry. Familiarity with lean delivery systems and continuous improvement methodologies. Knowledge of material-flow systems and automated material-handling systems, including conveyors, automated guided vehicles (AGVs), AMRs, and robotic arms. Comfort working in cross-functional teams and collaborating across Safety, Manufacturing, Launch, and Supply Chain functions. Strong communication skills to present findings, recommendations, and project updates to diverse stakeholders. Work Environment This role is based in a plant environment, primarily on the manufacturing floor, with frequent interaction with production equipment and material-handling systems. The position typically operates on a first-shift schedule and is expected to average 40 hours per week. Depending on project needs and workload, occasional Saturdays and some additional hours during the week may be required to meet deadlines and support critical launch or implementation activities. The environment is fast-paced and hands-on, with a focus on safety, operational excellence, and continuous improvement. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Cleveland, OH. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $48.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
