Job Description

Mechanical CAD Designer / Field Engineering Technician Gulf Coast Trailers Pinellas Park, FL Job Details Full-time $20
  • $25 an hour 1 day ago Qualifications Measuring tapes Customer communication Full Job Description Mechanical CAD Designer / Field Engineering Technician Gulf Coast Trailers, Inc.
  • Pinellas Park, FL Full-Time | $20
  • 25/hour In-Person Position
  • 40 Hours Per Week Gulf Coast Trailers is looking for a mechanically minded CAD designer/engineering technician to help design custom aluminum boat trailers, develop new products, and solve real-world manufacturing problems.
This is a fully in-person position at our Pinellas Park facility. It is not remote or hybrid. We are looking for someone who wants to be in the shop and office 40 hours per week and who is comfortable regularly going into the field to measure boats and work through real-world fitment problems. This is NOT a traditional desk engineering position. We need someone who is just as comfortable crawling underneath a boat with a tape measure as they are sitting at a computer designing it. One day you may be using Fusion 360 to develop a new trailer component. The next day you may be at a marina measuring a boat hull, determining bunk locations and clearances, then coming back to the shop and turning those measurements into something our fabrication team can actually build. We're looking for someone who likes to build, measure, design, troubleshoot, and figure things out — not someone who only wants to sit behind a computer producing drawings. What you'll do Travel locally to physically measure boats and hulls Determine bunk placement, hull support, clearances, axle positioning, and trailer fitment Turn field measurements into custom trailer designs and shop specifications Design primarily in Fusion 360 Create fabrication drawings, components, fixtures, and jigs Work directly with welders and fabricators to take designs from computer to finished product Prototype and 3D print components Help develop new trailer models and products Troubleshoot problems in the shop and improve existing designs Occasionally communicate directly with customers and dealers Useful experience includes Fusion 360
  • preferred / primary software SolidWorks Autodesk Inventor AutoCAD 3D printing and prototyping Mechanical design or drafting Welding, fabrication, machining, or manufacturing Boats, trailers, automotive, marine, or other mechanical equipment A four-year engineering degree is NOT required.
Technical-school graduates, self-taught designers, and mechanically talented applicants are encouraged to apply. We're much more interested in whether you can measure something, understand how it works, design a solution, and help us build it than the name of the degree on your wall. This position requires regular attendance at our Pinellas Park facility and is not eligible for remote work.
