At Cerno, we design and manufacture high-end lighting in-house, blending modern design with authentic craftsmanship. This role bridges the gap between design engineering and the shop floor, working directly across our assembly, woodshop, machine shop, fabrication, metal finishing, powder coating, and glass blowing departments. You will play a vital role in transitioning new products to production, supporting modified and custom one-off builds, managing product documentation in our ERP system, and keeping daily operations running smoothly. We are open to entry-level candidates who possess demonstrated hands-on shop floor experience.

Key Responsibilities Shop Floor & Department Support:

Serve as the primary technical point of contact across all manufacturing departments (assembly, woodworking, machining, metal fabrication, finishing, and glass blowing) to troubleshoot daily production issues and improve efficiency.

New Product Introduction:

Partner with design and New Product teams to seamlessly transition new designs to production. Refine assembly sequences, tooling requirements, and initial product documentation.

CAD & Product Data Management:

Create, update, and manage 3D models, detailed production drawings, and assembly layouts using SolidWorks.

ERP & Documentation Control:

Build and maintain accurate Bills of Materials, routings, item master data, Standard Operating Procedures, and Engineering Change Orders in our ERP system.

Tooling & Fixturing:

Design and build custom assembly jigs, holding fixtures, and shop tooling to improve safety, ergonomics, and repeatable quality.

Custom & Modified Product Support:

Process custom and modified-standard orders. Rapidly adapt CAD models, generate custom Bills of Materials, and provide direct shop floor support for modified or custom builds.

Continuous Improvement:

Collaborate with craftspeople and management to identify lean manufacturing opportunities, reduce scrap/rework, and optimize complex, multi-material manufacturing processes.

Qualifications & Requirements Education:

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).

Experience:

Open to entry-level candidates, but hands-on manufacturing experience is required (e.g., machining, woodworking, metal fabrication, or hands-on trade/internship experience).

CAD & Software Skills:

Proficiency in SolidWorks for 3D modeling and 2D production drawings. Familiarity with using ERP/MRP systems for BOM and revision management.

DFM & Custom Mindset:

Basic understanding of Design for Manufacturability (DFM/DFA) and the ability to process one-off custom requests without stalling standard production flow.

Material & Process Knowledge:

Exposure to or basic understanding of metalworking, woodworking, coating processes, and assembly techniques.

Mindset & Communication:

Excellent problem-solving skills, strong mechanical aptitude, respect for high-end craftsmanship, and a collaborative, roll-up-your-sleeves shop floor attitude. Preferred Qualifications Prior exposure to lighting, furniture, or architectural product manufacturing. Hands-on experience operating CNC machinery, manual mills/lathes, or woodworking equipment. Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles.
