Job Description

Product Engineer - BOM /
Manufacturing Salary:
Up to approximately $90,000
DOE Job Type:
Full-Time |
Permanent Sector:
Furniture / Product Manufacturing Please Read Before Applying This is a product and manufacturing engineering role - not a software, IT or purely conceptual design position. We are looking for someone who understands how a physical product is actually manufactured and can translate drawings, specifications and product requirements into accurate, controlled Bills of Materials (BOMs) within an ERP environment. You should be comfortable looking at a product or drawing, understanding how the components fit together and how it will be manufactured, and then ensuring the BOM, item data, routings and revisions accurately reflect that manufacturing reality. Experience within furniture, cabinetry, millwork, workspace products or another configurable/design-led manufacturing environment would be particularly relevant.
Whittier / Southeast
Los Angeles, CA |
On-site Salary:
Circa $90,000 DOE Full-time | Permanent The Opportunity Broadreach Recruitment is supporting an established international design and manufacturing business in the appointment of a Product Engineer for its Southeast Los Angeles operation. This is a hands-on engineering role with real ownership of the technical data behind a portfolio of standard and configurable manufactured products .
Sitting at the intersection of:
Product → Engineering → Manufacturing → Operations → Supply Chain you'll ensure the information used to configure, purchase, cost and manufacture products is accurate, controlled and production-ready. This is not a software Product Engineer position , nor are we looking for someone who simply administers an ERP system. You need to understand physical products, how they go together, how they're manufactured and how that reality translates into BOMs, routings and controlled product data. What You'll Be Doing Own the creation, maintenance and revision control of Bills of Materials (BOMs) for standard products Manage Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and product version control Ensure BOM structures are accurate, complete and ready for production Maintain item cards, routings and associated manufacturing data within ERP Work closely with Operations, Manufacturing and Supply Chain to resolve BOM and product-data issues affecting production Translate drawings, specifications and product requirements into accurate, buildable BOMs Maintain clear and auditable engineering documentation, revision histories and change logs Support new product launches and updates to existing product ranges Ensure BOMs accurately reflect current materials, manufacturing processes and supplier information Identify opportunities to simplify product structures and reduce unnecessary complexity Support Design for Manufacture (DFM) and continuous improvement initiatives Improve the accuracy of product costing, planning and manufacturing information What We're Looking For You'll ideally have: 3+ years' experience in Product Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or a closely related role Experience within a discrete manufacturing environment Strong hands-on experience creating and maintaining BOMs Practical experience of ECOs, revision control and engineering change processes Working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications and manufacturing documentation Understanding of how BOM structure affects manufacturing, purchasing, inventory and costing Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy Confidence working cross-functionally with Engineering, Operations, Production and Supply Chain A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline, is preferred. Equivalent practical experience will also be considered. ERP Experience The business operates Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central , so previous Business Central experience would be particularly valuable. However, it isn't essential. We're equally interested in candidates with strong experience using other manufacturing ERP/MRP platforms who understand the relationship between: Product Structure → BOM → Routing → Procurement → Production → Cost Particularly Relevant Backgrounds This role could suit someone from: Commercial or contract furniture Workspace products Modular furniture systems Lockers and storage systems Cabinetry Millwork Case goods Architectural products Modular or configurable manufactured products Experience with wood products, powder coating, metal fabrication, mixed-material products or similar manufacturing processes would also be useful. We're also open to adjacent discrete manufacturing sectors where the underlying engineering principles are transferable. What Success Looks Like Success in this role means: Production trusts the BOM Standard product data is accurate and up to date Engineering changes are properly controlled, documented and implemented The ERP reflects what is actually being manufactured Planning and costing are based on reliable product information BOM-related manufacturing issues are identified and resolved quickly Operations has a clear technical owner for standard product information The Person We're looking for someone who enjoys getting into the detail and taking ownership. If Production discovers the wrong component or something doesn't build as expected, you'll naturally want to establish: Is the BOM wrong? Is Production working from the wrong revision? Was an ECO not implemented correctly? Is the routing wrong? Has a material or supplier changed? And, importantly, you'll then make sure the underlying problem is fixed , rather than simply correcting today's production issue. You'll be methodical, technically curious, practical and comfortable working closely with the people actually manufacturing the product. Why Join? This is an opportunity to take genuine ownership of the product-data foundation behind an established portfolio of manufactured products. You'll have the opportunity to influence: Product Accuracy | Manufacturing Efficiency | Costing | Engineering Change | Product Simplification | New Product Introduction | Continuous Improvement For a Product or Manufacturing Engineer who enjoys the space where engineering meets real-world production , this is a particularly interesting opportunity.
