To support their ongoing expansion, they are looking to grow their mechanical engineering department, where all design and production processes are managed internally. We are looking for a Machinery Design Engineer to take full ownership of custom equipment projects, guiding them from the initial brainstorming phase to the delivery of a fully functional, operational machine. Core Responsibilities Utilize Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD 2D to develop custom machinery designs. Manage the full lifecycle of mechanical projects, moving from conceptualization through to final assembly and completion. Select and size essential mechanical parts such as shafts, motors, gearboxes, and bearings to ensure optimal performance. Execute necessary simulations and engineering calculations to verify the integrity of your designs. Generate comprehensive technical documentation, blueprints, and precise drawings. Coordinate with external suppliers to choose and incorporate necessary components. Partner with the production staff on the shop floor to facilitate a smooth machine build process. Enhance overall machine reliability and streamline production processes through continuous design improvements. Professional Qualifications A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline. At least two years of experience in capital equipment or custom machinery design, with a preference for three to five years. Proficiency in 3D CAD platforms, with a strong preference for Autodesk Inventor. Proven ability to shepherd machinery projects from the initial idea to the final product. A solid grasp of mechanical power transmission, including shafts, bearings, gearboxes, and motors. Background in fabrication or welding design is considered an advantage. This is a permanent, full-time position based on-site in Carol Stream with an established and expanding manufacturer of custom machinery.
