environment. Position Overview We are seeking a highly technical, hands-on Automation Engineer to manage and execute improvement projects for our production automation. This dual-focus role involves rolling up your sleeves to design and develop custom fixtures in-house, as well as identifying, sourcing, and managing external automation vendors for larger-scale integrations. With support from the management and engineering teams, you will play a critical role in scaling our manufacturing capabilities. This position also offers the unique opportunity to collaborate directly with the technical teams of our major medical OEM customers during the equipment validation phases of their projects.
Lead continuous improvement projects for production automation, managing timelines, budgets, and deliverables from concept through deployment.
In-House Design & Development:
Conceptualize, design, and build custom manufacturing fixtures, tooling, and automated production cells.
Vendor Management:
Identify, evaluate, and partner with external automation vendors. Oversee equipment builds, lead design reviews, and manage Factory/Site Acceptance Testing (FAT/SAT).
Customer Collaboration:
Work face-to-face with technical representatives from our major OEM customers to support the validation and qualification portions of their device transfer and assembly projects.
Qualifications Education:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
Technical Background:
Strong familiarity with programmable logic controllers (PLCs), as well as pneumatic and electrical actuators. Must have hands-on experience evaluating different sensor types and a solid understanding of their pros and cons across various manufacturing applications.
CAD Proficiency:
Experience with 3D CAD modeling for fixture and tooling design, with a requirement for proficiency in SolidWorks.
Vendor Sourcing:
Prior experience evaluating, selecting, and managing third-party equipment builders or contract integrators.
Work Environment:
Ability to work 100% on-site at our Pingree Grove, IL facility and thrive in a hands-on manufacturing environment. Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)
Validation Expertise:
Prior experience with medical device equipment validation (authoring and executing
IQ/OQ/PQ
protocols) is a strong plus, but not required to be successful in this role.
