JOB DESCRIPTION
WHO
WE ARE LOOKING FOR
The Launch Engineer plays a key role in supporting Slate's vehicle program through its most critical phase—launch. Given where we are in the program, this role will have significant exposure to Manufacturing, Quality, and Engineering, with a strong focus on day-to-day issue resolution on the production floor. This is an outstanding opportunity for someone looking to build a career in Engineering with a real-world automotive foundation. We are looking for someone with strong problem-solving skills, high energy, and the willingness to support issue resolution at any moment. Just as important, the role requires a positive attitude and, most critically, strong learning agility to adapt quickly across a wide range of technical and manufacturing topics.
WHAT YOU GET TO DO
Launch Support & Issue Resolution Support daily build readiness meetings and drive real-time resolution of open issues across multiple teams. Coordinate cross-functional issue tracking, PPAP sign-off status, and parts availability escalations in partnership with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain teams. Monitor build progress against program milestones and surface risks proactively to launch leadership. Manufacturing & Quality Execution Spend significant time on the production floor, validating process readiness, supporting station sign-offs, and ensuring quality standards are met during build events. Conduct structured root cause analysis on build defects and non-conformances using 8D, 5 Whys, or equivalent problem-solving methods. Engineering & Program Coordination Support PPAP qualification activities, supplier escalations, and part sign-off workflows in coordination with Engineering and Quality teams. Assist in tracking deviation approvals to support program readiness decisions. Documentation & Reporting Produce structured meeting summaries, launch readiness reports, and action item trackers to keep cross-functional teams aligned. Maintain and communicate parts availability status, open issue logs, and supplier escalation summaries to support leadership decision-making. Continuous Improvement Capture lessons learned during build events and contribute to process improvement initiatives that carry forward into future build phases. Proactively identify gaps in launch readiness and collaborate with functional leads to close them before they become program-level risks.
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TEAM
Education Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or Automotive Engineering , or a related technical field. Coursework or project experience in manufacturing processes, quality systems, or vehicle systems is a plus. Experience 0-2 years of experience in an engineering, manufacturing, or quality role . Internship or co-op experience in an automotive or manufacturing environment is highly valued. Exposure to cross-functional program environments—where Engineering, Quality, and Manufacturing interact—is a strong differentiator. Skills Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to quickly assess ambiguous situations and drive toward resolution on the floor. High energy and positive attitude, with the willingness to support extended hours during peak build events when the program demands it. Strong learning agility—the ability and hunger to rapidly develop competency across a broad range of technical domains, from BIW and propulsion to quality systems and supply chain. Clear and concise communicator, comfortable working with engineers, manufacturing technicians, and senior leadership simultaneously.
