Full Job Description Description:
About the Position This is a hands-on manufacturing process engineering role. You'll work directly with machinists and operators to develop and improve manufacturing processes across our precision machining operations, reducing variation, improving throughput, and ensuring every component meets print. You're not writing reports from a desk. You're troubleshooting process issues, optimizing parameters, building better tooling setups, and closing out problems for good. If you thrive in a high-mix precision shop where no two days are the same, this role is built for you. Responsibilities Develop and improve manufacturing processes across machining, grinding, and forming operations Work directly with machinists and operators to solve process problems at the source Create and maintain work instructions, process documentation, and tooling standards Support new product introduction, translate design intent into manufacturable processes Drive continuous improvement: cycle time, yield, first-pass quality Collaborate with quality and design engineering to resolve non-conformances and reduce variation Identify tooling, fixturing, and equipment needs; support capital justification
Requirements:
Who You Are Most effective when you're on the floor alongside operators, not in a conference room Systematic thinker who documents what you learn and builds repeatable processes others can follow Earn credibility through technical knowledge and follow-through, not title Calm under pressure with the discipline to drive problems to closure, not just workarounds Curious and resourceful, you find answers, you don't wait for them What You Bring 3-7 years of manufacturing engineering experience in a precision machining environment Hands-on background with CNC turning, milling, grinding, or related processes Ability to read and interpret GD&T and engineering drawings Strong problem-solving instincts, you find root cause, not band-aids Experience with process documentation, work instruction development, or similar Familiarity with quality systems (ISO, AS9100, or similar) a plus Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering preferred; equivalent experience considered
What Success Looks Like Process Stability:
Within the first 6 months, you've identified key sources of variation across our machining operations and implemented documented corrective actions that stick
Documentation:
Standard work, control plans, and process documentation are complete, accurate, and actively used on the floor, not filed and forgotten
Troubleshooting:
You're the first call when something goes wrong, and problems get resolved, not just managed
Collaboration:
Engineering, quality, and production operators trust you and pull you in early on new programs and non-conformances
Continuous Improvement:
You've driven measurable improvement in yield, throughput, or dimensional consistency in at least one key process area Why Join Helix Helix designs and manufactures high-precision linear motion systems, ball screws, lead screws, linear actuators, and custom assemblies for aerospace, defense, and medical applications. We engineer with purpose, hold ourselves to rigorous standards, and take ownership from the first customer interaction through final delivery. If precision work and doing things the right way matter to you, you'll fit in here. Our work is built around precision, craftsmanship, and continuous improvement. You'll work in a clean, climate-controlled facility with advanced equipment, alongside machinists, engineers, operators, and commercial team members who take pride in their work and hold themselves to high standards.
