Job Title:
Manufacturing Engineer Job Description This Manufacturing Engineer role focuses on building, testing, qualifying, and producing next-generation spacecraft within a low-rate, high-complexity production environment. You will apply innovative solutions and advanced manufacturing technologies to solve complex challenges at both system and component levels. Working closely with cross-functional teams, you will ensure a seamless transition from development to production while maintaining a strong focus on quality, efficiency, and reliability. This position plays a key role in supporting a mixed-model assembly team contributing to a cutting-edge satellite constellation. Responsibilities + Serve as the primary technical contact for production-related issues, ensuring rapid resolution and implementing robust long-term corrective actions. + Manage non-conforming materials within production, including reviewing and approving nonconformance reports and material review board (NCs/MRBs) decisions. + Lead root cause investigations using structured problem-solving techniques such as Fishbone diagrams, Fault Tree Analysis, and DMAIC. + Create, update, and maintain shop orders, work instructions, and standard operating procedures to support continuous and reliable production flow. + Develop and maintain troubleshooting documentation for production test hardware to enable efficient diagnosis and repair of issues. + Collaborate closely with design, quality, and test engineering teams to support both development and production programs for spacecraft systems and components. + Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, 5S, and other Operational Excellence methodologies to enhance quality, throughput, and cost performance. + Support integration, testing, and troubleshooting of mechanical and electronic systems at component, subsystem, and system levels. + Apply data analysis and manufacturing engineering principles to optimize processes, improve yield, and reduce defects in a production environment. + Contribute to the development and maintenance of technical documentation, including test plans, standard operating procedures, and troubleshooting guides. + Support the mixed-model assembly (MMA) team in building a satellite constellation by ensuring robust manufacturing processes, clear documentation, and effective triage of production issues. + Coordinate with production teams to manage bills of materials (BOMs), assembly processes, and technical documentation to ensure accurate and efficient builds. Essential Skills + Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience. + Demonstrated experience reviewing and approving nonconforming material (NCs/MRBs) within a production environment. + Experience working in low-rate, high-complexity manufacturing environments, preferably involving complex electromechanical systems. + Familiarity with Lean manufacturing principles, including 5S and Six Sigma methodologies. + Proficiency in root cause analysis tools such as Fishbone Diagrams, Fault Tree Analysis, and DMAIC. + Experience creating and updating work instructions and standard operating procedures for manufacturing operations. + Solid understanding of manufacturing processes, quality control, and production systems. + Hands-on experience in manufacturing engineering, including testing, troubleshooting, and process improvement. + Ability to manage non-conformance, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective action plans in a production setting. + Experience in troubleshooting and triage of production issues to support continuous production flow. + Strong skills in technical documentation related to work instructions, shop orders, and production processes. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience with automated manufacturing processes and test methods at component, subsystem, and system levels. + Knowledge of qualification test procedures (QTP), acceptance test procedures (ATP), functional testing, and environmental testing such as thermal, acoustic, and vibration. + Experience with electrical system design, metrology, and mechanical failure analysis. + Demonstrated technical writing skills for documentation such as test plans, standard operating procedures, and troubleshooting guides. + Exposure to or experience with printed circuit board assemblies (PCBA) in a production environment. + Experience working in a production environment involving assembly, bills of materials (BOMs), and detailed technical documentation. + Familiarity with continuous improvement, Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and operational excellence initiatives. + Interest in contributing to the build-out of a satellite constellation within a mixed-model assembly (MMA) team. Work Environment This role is based onsite in Kirkland within a production and test environment focused on next-generation spacecraft and satellite constellation hardware. You will work closely with cross-functional engineering and production teams in a mixed-model assembly setting, supporting both development and production activities. The environment includes integration and testing of mechanical and electronic systems, as well as exposure to automated manufacturing processes, functional testing, and environmental testing such as thermal, acoustic, and vibration. The position follows an onsite schedule that includes back-half day coverage to support ongoing production and test operations. The work setting emphasizes Lean principles, 5S, and continuous improvement, with a strong culture of collaboration, technical excellence, and hands-on problem solving. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Redmond, WA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $66.70 - $66.70/hr.
