The Design Engineer turns approved scope into manufacturing-ready models and drawings — the critical link between what's sold and what gets built. This is a mid-level role for an engineer who can work independently through a full design cycle: building accurate SolidWorks models of platforms, staircases, guardrails, and ladders; producing clean, complete drawings for the shop floor; and managing revisions without losing schedule. Candidates with custom or engineered-to-order manufacturing experience are strongly preferred — this role requires judgment about manufacturability and shop constraints that only comes from having designed for a fabrication floor before, not just a classroom or a catalog-parts environment. The Design Engineer reports to the Senior Manufacturing Engineer and works daily alongside Project Management, and Estimating, to keep designs moving from customer approval through release to production. Key Responsibilities Design & Modeling
- Use SolidWorks to create accurate models of platforms, staircases, guardrails, ladders, and related structural fiberglass products.
- Design solutions appropriate to OSHA guidelines for industrial access, fall protection, and structural safety requirements. Drawing Development & Documentation
- Create manufacturing drawings from generated models, including connection details sufficient for shop fabrication without ambiguity.
- Maintain drawing revisions accurately and promptly as project scope or field conditions change.
- Use AutoCAD as needed to support drawing development and coordination with legacy or customer-supplied files. 3D Scanning & Field Data
- Use Trimble RealWorks and Navisworks to process 3D scan and point cloud data into usable design inputs for existing-condition or retrofit projects.
- Reconcile field-verified dimensions against design assumptions before finalizing drawings for release. Communication & Cross-Functional Coordination
- Coordinate directly with shop floor staff to confirm design intent, review fabrication questions, and maintain alignment between engineering and production.
- Work with Project Management to maintain design revisions in step with evolving project scope and customer approvals.
- Communicate professionally with customers to gather the information needed to complete accurate designs.
- Escalate manufacturability concerns, scope gaps, or draw conflicts to the Senior Manufacturing Engineer before they affect the production schedule.
- Maintain project and drawing status on Monday.com so Project Management and the Senior Manufacturing Engineer have real-time visibility into design progress. Qualifications Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil/Structural Engineering, or related field; equivalent experience considered.
- 3-5 years of design engineering experience; custom or engineered-to-order manufacturing experience strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience producing manufacturing-ready drawings and models for fabricated structural products (platforms, staircases, guardrails, ladders, or similar).
- Working knowledge of OSHA design-related guidelines for industrial access and fall-protection structures is a plus. Skills & Abilities
- Strong SolidWorks proficiency required; Weldments a plus and Navisworks experience a bonus.
- Working ability to use AutoCAD.
- Understanding 3D scanning and point cloud files a bonus but is not required.
- Proficient with Bluebeam Revu, Excel, MS Teams, Outlook, and Monday.com.
- Professional communication skills, both internal and customer-facing.
- Organized and able to manage multiple concurrent design and revision cycles against production deadlines.
