As Cerebral Staffing , we are seeking a decisive, autonomous 3rd Shift Weld / Manufacturing Engineer to join our team supporting our client, John Deere , at their premier heavy-equipment facility, Davenport Works , in Davenport, IA . If you are ready to command the night shift and tackle advanced manufacturing challenges head-on, we want to hear from you. 3rd Shift Weld / Manufacturing Engineer - John Deere Davenport Works This is a high-visibility, technical leadership role featuring an initial 1+ year contract path paying up to $50/hr , including 2 weeks of PTO . Operating 100% onsite in Davenport, IA, you will be the primary engineering anchor for the Fabrication department during 3rd shift (10:00 PM - 6:00 AM) operations. You will step in as the expert resource to keep production moving—supporting welding operators, collaborating with maintenance technicians, and managing automated manufacturing systems.
Position Details & Compensation Pay Rate:
Up to $50/hr (W2).
Location:
100% Onsite at John Deere Davenport Works (Davenport, IA).
Duration:
1+ Year contract assignment (With strong multi-year corporate extension potential).
Shift Structure:
3rd Shift routine running 10:00 PM - 6:00 AM .
Overtime & Weekends:
Factory overtime is required, and weekend coverage will be requested based on plant production surges and assembly needs.

Core Responsibilities Production Continuity Support:
Serve as the frontline technical engineering resource to support weld operators, repair maintenance crews, and salary staff to ensure continuous part throughput during 3rd shift fabrication routines.
Robotic & Manual Weld Troubleshooting:
Real-time debugging, optimization, and parameter adjustment of automated robotic weld cells and manual multi-pass structural welding lines.
MES & Software Resolution:
Troubleshoot, navigate, and correct errors inside the plant's Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) to prevent tracking and data-logging production bottlenecks.
Operator Mentorship:
Train welding operators line-side on newly deployed processes, weld gun angles, safety parameters, and engineering print updates.
Documentation & Project Tracking:
Drive project development loops, formalize standard operating procedures, resolve internal work tickets, and log technical shift pass-downs via Outlook and Excel.
Ambiguous Problem Solving:
Act independently with minimal management direction to resolve unexpected, complex equipment and line failures under fast-turnaround pressure.
Required Skills & Experience Welding Automation Competence:
Comprehensive, hands-on experience troubleshooting and programming automated robotic welding systems ( Fanuc robotics configurations are highly preferred ) as well as manual gas metal arc welding processes.
Technical Process Execution:
Strong capacity to support manufacturing setups through the execution, tuning, and auditing of new or existing welding procedures.
Digital Literacy:
Proficient navigating corporate computer ecosystems, specifically Microsoft Excel, Outlook communication chains, and factory scheduling networks.
Autonomy & Team Integration:
Proven ability to work completely alone as the primary shift engineer, while maintaining the communication habits required to follow up on group tickets and log text instructions. What Makes You Stand Out Prior tenure as a Weld Engineer or Robotics Technician within a John Deere heavy manufacturing plant or an industrial ag/construction fabrication setting. Deep knowledge of structural weld symbols, metallurgy, weld fixture design adjustments, and coordinate-system troubleshooting.
