Artisan Resource Group is recruiting a Weld Specialist to own weld quality and process standardization across the company's welding operations. This is an Engineering-team role, not a production supervisory one: the Weld Specialist owns the fixture area for new product introduction — from incoming prints through fixture design, tooling, and process validation — and drives adherence to weld process on the shop floor through subject-matter credibility and hands-on leadership rather than direct authority over production welders. The role blends hands-on metallurgy and welding expertise with training, documentation, and continuous improvement responsibilities, and is expected to grow into oversight of a small team (robotic weld programmer, fixture builders, and an R&D machinist) as the fixture area scales. Key Responsibilities Develop and maintain standardized welding procedures, and train welders to meet department quality requirements. Apply expertise in metallurgy, welding techniques, inspection, and weld testing to improve process efficiency, quality, and output. Create and maintain weld standards, conduct weld tests, and develop inspection and welder-training programs. Perform WPS, PQR, and welder qualification testing, and maintain qualification records to company standards. Train welders on proper MIG and robotic MIG welding techniques to ensure consistent quality expectations. Troubleshoot floor issues by diagnosing defects, adjusting parameters, and guiding operators toward corrective actions. Partner with Engineering on the design, validation, and improvement of jigs and fixtures. Own the fixture area workflow for new product introduction — analyzing incoming prints, designing and validating tooling, and establishing the weld process — through to part qualification with the customer and handoff to production weld cells. Develop weld settings for new weldments and verify effectiveness through appropriate destructive and nondestructive testing methods. Review weld prints and specifications, and develop work instructions to ensure accurate documentation. Coach team members on weld symbols, print reading, and process fundamentals. Participate in the quoting process, advising Engineering on weld feasibility, manufacturability, process time, and fixture needs for new opportunities. Evaluate emerging welding technology and consumables (e.g., laser welding, alternative wire/gas selections) for potential production applications. Champion safety practices, reinforcing proper PPE use and safe welding techniques. Qualifications Required 5+ years in a manufacturing environment that included both robotic and hand welding. Demonstrated shop-floor credibility and leadership presence — able to influence weld process adherence and drive culture change without direct supervisory authority over production welders. High school diploma or equivalent. Strong knowledge of welding, joining, and cutting processes and equipment. Knowledge of welding metallurgy — strength, ductility, corrosion resistance, and fatigue life. Ability to inspect products for missing, poor, or incorrect welds against drawings and patterns. Strong knowledge of welding symbols and drawings; able to write, read, and understand welding instructions and procedures. Ability to analyze weld failures and determine root cause — material, weld settings, positioning, or other. Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
