KVAL, Inc. - Mechanical Engineer Position Summary The Mechanical Engineer II designs, analyzes, and maintains mechanical components and systems used in the manufacture of our machinery products. Working under general direction, this role develops specifications for new parts, modifications, and prototypes; selects appropriate materials and processes to ensure quality, performance, and manufacturability; and uses CAD/CAE tools to translate concepts into production-ready designs. This is a mid-level position that is occasionally directed in several aspects of the work while gaining exposure to increasingly complex assignments within the mechanical engineering function. Key Responsibilities Design, analyze, and maintain mechanical components, assemblies, and systems to meet product specifications, customer requirements, and internal engineering standards. Perform and assist with full product lifecycle development — concept, design, prototype build, testing, manufacturing hand-off, and field support. Create and maintain 3D models, detailed production drawings, and specifications using CAD software for machined parts, sheet-metal fabrications, and mechanical sub-assemblies. Select materials and manufacturing processes (machining, casting, sheet-metal fabrication, welding, etc.) that balance performance, cost, and manufacturability. Build and test prototypes; conduct experiments, collect and analyze data, and evaluate reliability, safety, and overall performance against requirements. Troubleshoot mechanical issues and production discrepancies on the shop floor; perform root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions. Respond to manufacturing and production questions; update drawings, routings, and bills of materials (BOMs) to resolve build discrepancies and keep documentation current. Participate in design reviews with manufacturing, quality, and other engineering disciplines to validate designs for producibility before release. Support process-improvement initiatives aimed at reducing development time, improving manufacturability, and lowering product cost. Prepare technical documentation, functional specifications, and engineering change orders (ECOs) to support new products and design modifications. Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders — manufacturing engineering, quality, supply chain, and product management — to communicate designs and resolve open issues. May provide technical guidance to engineering technicians, drafters, or machine shop personnel on assigned projects. Champion a safety-first manufacturing environment by actively identifying mechanical hazards, participating in safety reviews, and adhering to all site compliance policies during shop-floor troubleshooting.
