Job Description

Mechanical Design Engineer Geotrek Camper Vans - 4.2 Boulder, CO Job Details Full-time $80,000 - $120,000 a year 7 hours ago Benefits Health insurance 401(k) Paid time off 401(k) 4% Match 401(k) matching Qualifications Mechanical design engineer experience 3D CAD modeling GD&T Design engineering Engineering product development Full Job Description About Geotrek Vans We design and hand-build premium off-grid camper vans that turn "someday" into a road trip this weekend, selling direct so adventure isn't taxed by dealer markups. We believe great products come from real-world testing and honest craftsmanship — and whether you're behind the build or behind the scenes, everyone here plays a part in getting people out the door and onto the road. The Role We're looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to be the second engineer in our R D group, working under our Lead R D Engineer. You'll own the day-to-day execution — CAD, drawings, documentation, and hands-on prototyping — that keeps current-product engineering moving while our Lead R D Engineer focuses on new product development and technical direction. This is a hands-on role for someone who wants to split time between the CAD workstation and the shop floor, with a path to Senior Mechanical Engineer as your ownership grows. What You'll Do
  • Own day-to-day SolidWorks design and drawing production for aluminum components — rear boxes, brackets, hardware, trim, and racks — built to spec and ready for fabrication
  • Keep our engineering library and revision control current, so the team always knows what the latest version of a part or drawing is
  • Build and iterate physical prototypes by hand before they go to production, including running our 3D printing program
  • Turn customer feedback and field issues into real design fixes — handling smaller changes directly and looping in the Lead R D Engineer on anything bigger
  • Work closely with our Lead R D Engineer, interior design lead, and Production team to keep engineering, aesthetics, and the build schedule moving together What You Bring
  • Strong SolidWorks (or comparable 3D CAD) skills, including GD&T, for mechanical design and production-ready drawings
  • Experience with PDM or other revision-control systems and disciplined documentation habits
  • Hands-on prototyping and fabrication experience — equally comfortable in CAD and in the shop
  • Familiarity with sheet metal and aluminum fabrication and hardware/trim design; 3D printing experience is a plus
  • Comfortable executing precisely to another engineer's specifications while bringing sound judgment to the details
  • A collaborative teammate who works well within clearly defined role boundaries on a small team Work Environment & Physical Demands Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this role, consistent with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Colorado Anti-Discrimination Act.
This is primarily a desk-based CAD/design role with regular hands-on time in the shop — building and iterating prototypes, running our 3D printer, and checking fit on fabricated parts. It calls for sustained attention to detail across CAD models and drawings, disciplined documentation habits, and the ability to execute precisely to specifications while exercising good judgment on the details. Expect occasional lifting and handling of parts and prototypes up to about 25 lbs, and the use of basic PPE (safety glasses, gloves) during hands-on shop and prototyping work, consistent with standard 3D-printing ventilation and OSHA general industry safety practices.
