Job Description

Mechanical Design Engineer Position Summary S&S designs and manufactures custom skid-mounted process and pumping systems for industrial, municipal, and process applications. Our projects include pump skids, booster systems, chemical feed systems, filtration skids, heat exchanger packages, water transfer systems, and other custom-engineered equipment built to customer specifications. We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to transform system requirements and P&IDs into detailed 3D models and fabrication packages. This role is heavily focused on SolidWorks and is responsible for creating skid layouts, routed piping systems, fabrication drawings, and manufacturing documentation for custom equipment. The ideal candidate enjoys working in SolidWorks, solving design challenges, and collaborating closely with fabrication and assembly teams to bring designs to life. Responsibilities Utilize SolidWorks as the primary engineering tool to develop 3D models, assemblies, weldments, routed piping systems, layouts, and detailed fabrication drawings. Create skid layouts based on customer requirements, P&IDs, and equipment specifications. Design skid structures, equipment supports, piping systems, and equipment arrangements. Develop fabrication, assembly, and general arrangement drawings. Create and maintain bills of materials and engineering documentation. Collaborate with Mechanical Systems Engineers to ensure designs meet project requirements. Work directly with fabrication, welding, and assembly teams throughout production. Resolve design, fit-up, and manufacturing issues as they arise. Maintain drawing revisions, engineering standards, templates, and SolidWorks libraries. Identify opportunities to improve design quality, manufacturing efficiency, and standardization. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related discipline. 3-5 years of experience designing industrial equipment, process piping, structural frames, or skid-mounted systems. Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks, including 3D modeling, assemblies, weldments, routing, and detailed drawing creation. Experience creating fabrication and manufacturing drawings. Understanding of pumps, piping systems, valves, and fluid handling equipment. Knowledge of fabrication, welding, and manufacturing processes. Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to support projects from design through fabrication and testing. Why S&S? At S&S, engineers are directly involved in designing and building custom equipment that solves unique customer challenges. This is a hands-on role where you will spend significant time in SolidWorks developing complete systems and then working directly with production personnel to see those designs become finished equipment. From initial concept to equipment startup, our team is involved throughout the entire project lifecycle and sees firsthand how designs perform in the real world. This is an opportunity to engineer a wide variety of custom skid-mounted systems rather than the same product day after day.
