Mechanical Engineer Position Summary S&S designs and manufactures custom skid-mounted process and pumping systems for industrial, municipal, and process applications. Our projects include pump skids, booster systems, chemical feed systems, filtration skids, heat exchanger packages, water transfer systems, and other custom-engineered equipment built to customer specifications. We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to develop custom-engineered solutions from concept through fabrication. This role centers on the design and development of custom skid-mounted systems using SolidWorks and combines mechanical design, process piping layout, P&ID development, project execution, and manufacturing support in a fast-paced, custom-engineering environment. Every project presents unique challenges and opportunities to design equipment tailored to customer requirements. Responsibilities Utilize SolidWorks as the primary engineering tool to develop 3D models, assemblies, weldments, routed piping systems, layouts, and detailed fabrication drawings. Design custom skid-mounted process and pumping systems, process piping packages, and fluid handling equipment. Create and maintain P&IDs, equipment layouts, and bills of materials. Design skid structures, equipment supports, and piping systems with consideration for fabrication, installation, and maintenance. Review customer specifications and develop practical, manufacturable engineering solutions. Manage engineering aspects of multiple projects, including schedules, deliverables, and coordination with customers, project managers, and production personnel. Work directly with fabrication, welding, and assembly teams throughout production. Resolve design, fit-up, and manufacturing issues as they arise. Support equipment testing, troubleshooting, and implementation of engineering changes. Maintain engineering standards, templates, and SolidWorks libraries. Identify opportunities to improve product quality, design efficiency, and manufacturing processes. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. 3-5 years of experience designing industrial equipment, process piping, pump systems, or skid-mounted equipment. Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks, including 3D modeling, assemblies, weldments, routing, and detailed drawing creation. Experience developing and interpreting P&IDs. Knowledge of pumps, valves, instrumentation, fluid handling systems, and fabrication processes. Familiarity with ASME, ANSI, and applicable piping standards. Experience with pump skids, booster systems, water treatment equipment, chemical feed systems, filtration systems, heat exchanger packages, or similar process equipment. Strong communication, organization, and project management skills with the ability to solve practical engineering challenges. Ability to take projects from concept through fabrication, testing, and startup. Why S&S? At S&S, engineers are directly involved in designing and building custom equipment that solves unique customer challenges. This is a hands-on role where you will work closely with fabrication and production teams, see your designs come to life, and have the opportunity to engineer a wide variety of skid-mounted systems rather than the same product day after day. From initial concept to equipment startup, our engineers are involved throughout the entire project lifecycle and see firsthand how their designs perform in the real world. This role is ideal for engineers who enjoy spending time in SolidWorks developing complete systems and then working directly with the production team to see those designs become finished equipment. This is an opportunity to make a direct impact on the success of projects while working in an environment where practical engineering, craftsmanship, and innovation are valued.
